We are seeking a detail-driven Service Charge Accountant to join a growing finance function within a housing environment. This role offers the opportunity to take full ownership of service charge processes, working across multiple tenures and engaging with both internal teams and residents to ensure compliant charging structures.
Service Charge Accountant - Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate service charge budgets, estimates and year-end actuals, ensuring full legislative and lease compliance
- Review and refine service charge apportionments to ensure equitable and fully recoverable cost allocation across estates and tenures
- Scrutinise managing agent accounts, invoices and statements to ensure accuracy and correct recharge to customers
- Investigate service charge variances, providing clear reporting and insight to support decision-making
- Produce audit files and liaise with external auditors, supporting year-end processes and regulatory compliance
- Partner with housing, asset management and finance teams to capture all rechargeable costs and maximise income recovery
- Support resident consultations, Section 20 processes and dispute resolution for service charge queries
- Part or fully qualified accountant (AAT/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
- Previous Service Charge Accountant experience
- Proven experience calculating and managing service charges within a housing association environment
- Strong understanding of service charge legislation, apportionment methodologies and compliance requirements
- Ability to analyse large datasets, investigate variances and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders
