Purpose
Leads the user research, user experience, information architecture and content design that underpin the new Client's website, ensuring every design decision is grounded in evidence from real health and social care professionals, citizens and editors, and produced as reusable patterns the Client's team can extend.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and run research and usability testing with professionals, citizens and editors; build on HIS's existing personas, prior research and Google Analytics data; synthesise findings so design is evidence\-led.
- Design information architecture and navigation; propose and test content structures with real users before finalising; plan review, consolidation, archiving and retiring of legacy/low\-value content.
- Produce wireframes through to high\-fidelity, interactive prototypes; create a reusable, component\-based design library that maps onto WordPress templates and content types.
- Lead content design: structure, tone, readability and discoverability; define content standards and authoring guidance for editors; support content migration as hands\-on training.
- Retain and work within the existing HIS brand and colours while evolving the digital design.
- Coach HIS editors and the Digital Team in the design and content approach as part of capability building.
- Strong portfolio of user research and UX/UI design for content\-rich websites or digital services, ideally in public/health/complex environments.
- Hands\-on user research (contextual interviews, moderated/unmoderated testing, surveys) and synthesis.
- Information architecture and content design, including writing for the web and accessibility\-aware content.
- Prototyping tools (e.g. Figma) and experience producing reusable design systems/component libraries.
- Able to collaborate closely with developers and translate designs into buildable components.
- Human\-centred design certification/standards familiarity (e.g. ISO 9241\-210/220\).
- Experience designing within a WordPress/CMS context.
- Working knowledge of WCAG 2\.2 and inclusive design.
Pay: £230\.00\-£280\.00 per day
