This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior System Engineer (Virtual Private Cloud Team) based in Ireland.
This is a senior systems engineering role focused on building and operating the core networking layer of a large-scale cloud platform.
You will work on virtual private networking that enables reliable connectivity across distributed datacenter environments.
The role combines high-level control-plane development in Go with low-level dataplane and systems engineering, primarily involving C and open-source technologies.
You will contribute to secure networking services including virtual networks, load balancers, firewalls, security groups, and connectivity features.
A key focus will be improving scalability, resilience, performance, and stability across critical cloud infrastructure.
You will investigate challenging networking, datapath, kernel, and performance issues while collaborating with experienced engineers across the platform.
This is an opportunity to work on foundational infrastructure where your engineering decisions directly influence the reliability of cloud services.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and operate the Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) networking layer that provides reliable connectivity for cloud workloads.

  • Design and implement scalable and resilient networking services for virtualized cloud environments.

  • Develop and maintain the control plane, primarily using Go.

  • Contribute to the development and integration of dataplane components, primarily written in C and based on open-source networking technologies.

  • Improve the scalability, reliability, and operational stability of core cloud networking services.

  • Develop networking functionality such as IPv6 support, service endpoints, VPC peering, and Layer 7 load balancing.

  • Contribute to the development and improvement of network services including load balancers, firewalls, and security groups.

  • Improve internal architecture and optimize interactions between VPC services and related cloud platform components.

  • Investigate and resolve complex datapath and Linux kernel networking issues.

  • Analyze and address networking performance bottlenecks at both system and application levels.

  • Design and execute load and performance testing for cloud networking services.

  • Debug complex issues involving routing, connectivity, concurrency, and distributed infrastructure.

  • Develop reliable, high-performance, concurrent systems code suitable for large-scale production environments.

  • Contribute to the resilience of cloud networking infrastructure so services remain operational during partial system or infrastructure failures.

  • Collaborate with engineers working across control-plane, dataplane, networking, and platform infrastructure components.

  • Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to improvements in the architecture of core networking services.

  • Research and evaluate networking technologies and approaches that can improve platform capabilities and performance.

  • Participate in coding interviews as part of the recruitment process.
