Senior Surveyor, Retail Occupier Leasing
About the role CBRE is the world's largest commercial real estate services firm, and our Retail Occupier team advises some of the UK's most recognisable consumer brands on the decisions that shape their physical presence. From complex lease negotiations and portfolio restructuring to acquisitions, disposals and strategic advisory, our work sits at the intersection of real estate expertise and sharp commercial judgement.
We are looking for a talented Surveyor to Associate Director to join the team — someone with genuine technical depth in landlord and tenant matters who wants to operate as a creative dealmaker across a genuinely broad advisory platform. This is not a narrowly defined role. You will be expected to bring ideas, challenge convention and take ownership of outcomes across the full lifecycle of occupier real estate.
What you’ll do: Lease Advisory • Lead rent reviews, lease renewals, regears, break options and lease restructurings, negotiating directly with landlords to deliver the best commercial outcomes • Interpret complex lease documentation and structures — including turnover and percentage rent structures — and translate it into clear, actionable strategic advice • Prepare pre\-negotiation strategies, recommendation reports and settlement papers to a high standard
Portfolio Advisory \& Transactions • Understand all transaction types and how they play a part in the overall management of a portfolio to align the real estate to the business strategy • Advise clients on portfolio strategy — expansion, contraction, cost optimisation and estate repositioning • Contribute to pitches, client presentations and business development, taking an increasingly prominent role as your seniority grows • On major mandates, work as part of a mobilised team drawn from across CBRE's platform — you will be in the room, contributing, from early in your tenure
Collaboration • Work as a core member of a close\-knit, high\-performing team where collective success matters as much as individual contribution • Work fluidly across CBRE's multidisciplinary teams — Agency, Investment, Asset Management, Building Consultancy, Planning and Rating • Build and maintain senior client relationships, acting as a trusted adviser with the credibility and confidence to contribute in all situations
What you’ll need: • MRICS qualified with strong experience in lease consultancy, ideally within retail, F\&B, leisure or another multi\-site consumer\-facing sector • A creative, commercially minded dealmaker — you find solutions and structures to resolve issues • Genuinely broad in outlook: equally comfortable leading a lease renewal, structuring a portfolio strategy or driving an agency transaction • You want to grow quickly, take on real responsibility and build your career • Intellectually curious: you want to understand your clients' businesses deeply, not just their lease schedules • An entrepreneurial instinct: proactive, adaptable and energised by variety • Clear communicator — credible with senior clients and clear in written advice
