Meet the team

We are seeking an experienced Streaming Infrastructure Engineer to join the Playout and Distribution team. You will support the design, operation, and continuous improvement of our streaming and digital media platforms. You will play a key role in delivering resilient, scalable, and high\-performance media experiences, working closely with internal teams and technology partners to future\-proof and evolve RTÉ’s digital media deliveries.

About the role* Design, implement, and maintain infrastructure and workflows for OTT and digital media systems, ensuring high availability and reliability.

  • Developing and optimizing streaming technology solutions in collaboration with cross\-functional teams and vendors.

  • Contributing to the architecture of scalable, high\-performance video and audio streaming systems.

  • Monitoring, analysing, and improving end\-to\-end video delivery performance, reliability, and quality of experience.

  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues across streaming, broadcast, and supporting IT systems.

  • Driving automation, efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Evaluating emerging technologies and industry trends to support innovation.
*This role is primarily business hours\-based but requires flexibility to support planned maintenance, upgrades, and occasional on\-call activities outside normal working hours.*

About You* 5\+ years' experience in OTT, streaming, broadcast, or media technology environments.

  • Recognised Degree in Computer Science or Engineering.

  • Experience with scripting, automation, and programming languages such as Python, Java, or similar.

  • Evidence of programming ability and project contribution (Gitlab, SVN, etc).

  • Proven expertise in streaming technologies, broadcast systems, and digital media workflows.

  • Solid knowledge of Linux, IP networking, storage, compute, virtualization, and cloud infrastructure.

  • Understanding of industry standards and protocols including SMPTE ST 2110, HLS, MPEG\-DASH, CMAF, and DRM technologies.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem\-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across technical and operational teams.
Desirable Skills* Software development experience using object\-oriented programming languages.
  • Experience building APIs, automation tools, and web\-based solutions.

  • Knowledge of client platforms including Mobile Apps, Web, Smart TVs, Set\-Top Boxes, Chromecast, and other OTT devices.

  • Experience with video/audio encoding, video analytics, QoE monitoring, DRM, and advertising technologies.
This position will be located primarily in Dublin with travel to regional sites and abroad required from time to time.

Hours are currently office hours but this may change subject to the organisation’s requirements. For system upgrade/implementations, planned weekend/out of office hours working will be required. Formal out of hours callout arrangements may be put in place to meet business requirements.

This appointment will be made at the Senior Broadcast Engineer grade and is being offered on a permanent contract basis. The salary scale for this grade is from €62,633 to €75,834 gross per annum.
