Senior PPC Manager
Precedence Marketing – Holborn, London
£45,000–£65,000 per year
Full\-time, permanent
Monday–Thursday: 9:00am–5:30pm \| Friday: 9:00am–2:00pm
Precedence. Never an afterthought.
Precedence Marketing is a new London\-based performance marketing agency being built with a difference.
The business has been founded by an entrepreneur who owns and operates a group of established companies across e\-commerce, retail and other sectors.
Rather than starting as a traditional agency and immediately chasing as many external clients as possible, Precedence will initially become the marketing engine behind our own group of brands.
This gives our team something unusual for a new agency: established businesses, significant existing revenues, substantial advertising budgets and years of real customer and e\-commerce data to work with from day one.
Once we've built an exceptional team and proven the model across our own businesses, Precedence will selectively work with external clients — particularly ambitious e\-commerce and premium consumer brands where we believe we can make a genuine commercial difference.
We're now looking for an exceptional Senior PPC Manager to become one of the first key hires at Precedence.
Your first major account
One of your first priorities will be Lords \& Labradors, an established premium British pet brand and e\-commerce retailer within our group.
The business has significant existing paid advertising activity, with Google representing a major part of its customer acquisition strategy.
Much of this is currently managed by an external marketing agency.
We want to change that.
You'll work directly with the Founder and the Lords \& Labradors team to understand the existing account, interrogate its performance and progressively bring responsibility for Google Ads and paid search into Precedence.
We're not looking for somebody to simply maintain what the existing agency has built.
We want someone capable of asking difficult questions, identifying opportunities, spotting wasted spend and ultimately taking genuine ownership of performance.
As Precedence develops, you'll take responsibility for additional group businesses and carefully selected external clients.
The opportunity
This isn't a typical Senior PPC Manager position.
You'll be joining Precedence at the beginning and will have a genuine opportunity to influence how our paid media operation is built.
That includes our campaign structures, reporting, attribution, technology, processes and eventually the people we recruit around you.
You'll work closely with the Founder rather than through multiple layers of agency management.
If there's a better way of doing something, we want you to tell us.
If you need better software, data or technology to improve performance, we'll invest in it where it makes commercial sense.
And if an existing campaign isn't good enough, you'll have the freedom to challenge it.
As Precedence grows, we expect this role to develop with it, with a potential progression path towards Head of Paid Media / Performance Director and the opportunity to build a team underneath you.
What you'll be responsible for
Your primary focus will be paid search and performance marketing, particularly for established e\-commerce businesses.
You'll be responsible for:
- Managing and optimising significant Google Ads budgets
- Google Shopping strategy and optimisation
- Performance Max campaigns
- Search campaign strategy, structure and bidding
- Google Merchant Center
- Product feed optimisation
- Identifying wasted advertising spend and opportunities for profitable growth
- Budget allocation and forecasting
- Keyword strategy and search\-term analysis
- Conversion tracking and attribution
- GA4 and Google Tag Manager
- Analysing conversion rates, AOV, acquisition costs and customer behaviour
- Understanding product margins and profitability when making advertising decisions
- Landing\-page and conversion\-rate testing
- Working with creative teams to develop and test advertising assets
- Producing clear, commercially useful performance reporting
- Identifying what happened, why it happened and what we're doing next
- Working closely with e\-commerce, creative, content and SEO teams
- Supporting the transition of paid media activity away from external agencies
- Helping establish Precedence's PPC processes, systems and reporting
- Supporting future external client onboarding
- Helping recruit and develop additional paid media specialists as Precedence grows
We're particularly interested in people who understand that ROAS isn't the whole story.
A campaign can produce an impressive\-looking ROAS while restricting the growth of the wider business.
We want someone who thinks about contribution, margins, customer acquisition cost, new versus returning customers, lifetime value, conversion rate, average order value and ultimately how advertising translates into profitable growth.
You'll be working directly with the businesses themselves, so you'll have access to considerably more commercial information than is often available to someone working within a traditional agency.
We want you to use it.
Who we're looking for
We're deliberately looking for someone highly skilled rather than simply filling a position.
You'll ideally have 5\+ years of hands\-on PPC / paid search experience, with substantial experience managing e\-commerce accounts.
You may currently work for an agency and be frustrated by managing too many clients, or you may already work in\-house and want the opportunity to build something from the beginning.
Either background can work.
What's important is that you've personally managed meaningful advertising budgets and can demonstrate that you know how to improve and scale e\-commerce performance.
You should be highly confident with:
Google Ads
Google Shopping
Performance Max
Google Merchant Center
GA4
Google Tag Manager
Conversion tracking and attribution
Product feeds
Budget management and forecasting
Experience with Meta Ads would be beneficial, but it isn't essential.
We're not looking for someone who's mediocre across ten different marketing channels.
We would rather hire an outstanding Google Ads and PPC specialist and surround them with equally strong specialists in other areas as Precedence grows.
The type of person we're looking for
You'll probably enjoy this role if you're someone who:
- Is genuinely interested in e\-commerce and business, not just advertising dashboards
- Likes digging into data when something doesn't make sense
- Constantly looks for ways to improve performance
- Is confident enough to challenge an existing strategy
- Takes ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do
- Can explain complicated advertising performance in straightforward commercial language
- Enjoys working directly with business owners and decision\-makers
- Wants significant responsibility and autonomy
- Likes the idea of helping build a company rather than joining one where everything has already been decided
- Wants their career and responsibilities to grow as the business grows
We want Precedence to have high standards without developing the long\-hours and presenteeism culture associated with parts of the agency industry.
Our normal working hours are:
Monday–Thursday: 9:00am–5:30pm
Friday: 9:00am–2:00pm
Yes — we finish at 2pm every Friday.
We expect people to work hard and care about what they're responsible for, but we don't believe keeping people sitting at a desk unnecessarily creates better work.
There will naturally be occasional major trading periods, launches or deadlines where additional attention is required, but routine evening and weekend working isn't the culture we're building.
This role will initially be predominantly office\-based because you'll be joining at an early stage and working closely with the Founder and other members of the initial team.
Our office is located at:
Precedence Marketing
Office 207
9 Holborn
London
EC1N 2LL
Benefits
As one of the early members of Precedence, we want you to feel part of the business we're building rather than simply another employee managing accounts.
Benefits include:
- £45,000–£65,000 salary depending on experience
- Performance\-related bonus
- 2pm finish every Friday
- 25 days annual leave \+ bank holidays
- Company pension
- 40% staff discount on Lords \& Labradors own\-brand products
- Occasional fully paid team lunches and dinners
- Company\-paid team events and socials
- Professional development and relevant training funded by the company
- Relevant industry conferences and events funded where beneficial
- High\-quality equipment and technology
- Central London office
- Direct access to the Founder and senior decision\-makers
- Significant autonomy over your area
- Exposure to established businesses and substantial advertising budgets
- Opportunity to work across multiple brands and industries
- Clear progression as Precedence grows
We'd rather provide a great working environment, sensible hours, good equipment, occasional great meals, proper opportunities and reward talented people well for helping us build the business.
Career progression
We're hiring this position as Senior PPC Manager, but we're not necessarily expecting it to stay that way.
Precedence is at the beginning of its growth.
As we bring additional group brands into the agency and begin taking on external clients, we'll need additional PPC specialists, executives and managers.
For the right person, there's a genuine opportunity to progress towards:
Head of Paid Media
and potentiall
