You will be part of a supportive and experienced team of Medicines Management Pharmacy Technicians, rotating across a range of clinical specialties. As a Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician, you will play a key role in delivering a safe, high\-quality, and patient\-focused ward\-based pharmaceutical service at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH).

Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will help ensure patients receive safe, effective, and timely medicines support throughout their care journey, contributing directly to improved patient outcomes and patient safety.

You will support the delivery and development of ward\-based medicines management services across a range of clinical specialties on a rotational basis. Responsibilities include medicines reconciliation, assessing patients’ own medicines, transcribing medicines, counselling patients, supporting medicine returns, and coordinating discharge medicines, including dispensing TTAs on wards and in dispensary.

You will also support the induction and training of pharmacy staff , while gaining valuable leadership experience through line management of a Pharmacy Support Worker.

The role includes supporting dispensary services, including dispensing activities and accuracy checking. We are looking for a registered Pharmacy Technician who has achieved, or is working towards, the Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification and is passionate about delivering excellent patient care in a dynamic team environment.

To undertake medicines management accreditations for Medicines Reconciliation, transcribing and patient’s own drug (POD) checks, carrying out appropriate duties with the guidance of a qualified lead pharmacy technician or pharmacist once accredited.

To maintain compliance with King’s policies and procedures for Medicines Management Pharmacy Technicians. Compliance will be monitored and assessed by the line manager.

To be the technical link person between wards and pharmacy, and to manage calls and requests as appropriate for the pharmacy team, via the Wifi phones.

To propose and implement policies and new working practices for ward based pharmacy services that will have an impact in the care group or Division.

To adhere to and maintain quality standards and performance indicators for service developments implemented.

To support the Pharmacy Clinical Services team in the development of the medicines management pharmacy technician service.

Be able to accuracy check clinically screened dispensed prescriptions, according to policy.

To be able to use Trust EPIC computer systems to record medication histories, order nonstock medication, endorse PODs and Patient Own Drugs at Home assessments.

To highlight medicine management incidents using the InPhase system and develop corrective/ preventative action plans with management e.g. fridge incidents, missing orders and dispensing/ administration errors.

To cover or to participate in dispensary services as necessary including leading the day to day running of the ward based satellite pharmacy if relevant to the speciality. These includes dispensing inpatient, outpatient and discharge medication.

To participate in the induction of new pharmacy and ward staff as required.

To participate in the training and supervision of pharmacy technicians to support the implementation of patient\-focused service developments as appropriate.

To be a line manager for a band 3 medicines management pharmacy assistant

To participate in research and audits undertaken in Pharmacy with regard to pharmacy Clinical Services.
