We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Senior Night Care Assistant to provide high\-quality care within a care home environment. This role involves supervising and supporting residents during night shifts, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well\-being. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience in senior care. You will play a vital role in maintaining personalised care plans, administering medication safely, and fostering a respectful, caring atmosphere throughout the night.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and supervise the night\-time routine of residents, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well\-being.
- Assist residents with personal care tasks, including mobility, personal hygiene, continence care, and emotional support.
- Safely administer medication in accordance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and best practice guidelines.
- Use and maintain accurate eMAR (Electronic Medication Administration Record) systems, ensuring all medication is administered and recorded correctly.
- Implement, monitor, and review individualised care plans in collaboration with the wider care team.
- Monitor residents' physical and emotional health, recognising any signs of deterioration or distress and reporting concerns promptly.
- Provide reassurance, companionship, and emotional support to residents throughout the night.
- Demonstrate strong leadership by supervising, supporting, and mentoring junior care staff, ensuring high standards of care are consistently maintained.
- Allocate duties effectively, provide guidance, and promote a positive, professional team culture during night shifts.
- Maintain accurate documentation of care provided, medication administered, incidents, and observations in accordance with organisational policies.
- Conduct regular health and safety checks throughout the home, ensuring the security of the premises during night hours.
- Communicate effectively with day staff and management to ensure continuity of care and provide comprehensive handovers.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the night by cleaning and tidying communal areas, including lounges, dining areas, corridors, kitchens, and bathrooms, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for residents, visitors, and staff, in line with infection prevention and control policies.
Requirements
- Previous experience working in a care home or senior care environment is essential.
- Experience administering medication and a good understanding of medication management procedures.
- Knowledge and experience of using eMAR (Electronic Medication Administration Record) systems is essential.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience within a healthcare or residential care setting is highly desirable.
- Strong leadership and decision\-making skills, with the ability to motivate and support a team during night shifts.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with residents, families, healthcare professionals, and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining exceptional standards of care and professionalism.
- Good understanding of care planning, safeguarding, infection prevention, medication administration, and health \& safety regulations.
- Basic IT skills for electronic care records, eMAR systems, and documentation.
- A valid driving licence is preferred but not essential.
- A compassionate, caring, and reliable nature with a genuine passion for supporting older adults to live with dignity, independence, and respect.
