Senior Mechanical Engineer Location: South Yorkshire
Salary: £65,000-£75,000 + Benefits

Elevation Recruitment Group are working with a specialist engineering business delivering complex handling projects across infrastructure, industrial and specialist structural sectors.

We are seeking a Chartered Mechanical Engineer to join a highly skilled engineering team, taking a lead role in the design, development and delivery of technically challenging mechanical systems. This opportunity would suit an engineer with a background in the design and build of large-scale moving structures, heavy machinery, hydraulic systems, or critical infrastructure projects.

Typical project experience may include:

• Swing bridges, bascule bridges and movable bridge structures


• Flood defence gates and water control systems


• Pumping stations and associated mechanical equipment


• Retractable roofs and kinetic architectural structures


• Heavy industrial machinery and bespoke mechanical handling equipment


• Other complex engineered systems involving moving mechanical assemblies

The Role As Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across the full project lifecycle, from concept development and detailed design through to manufacture, installation and commissioning.

Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients and stakeholders, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest engineering standards.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the design and development of complex mechanical systems and structures


• Producing and reviewing engineering calculations, technical specifications and design documentation


• Taking ownership of project delivery, ensuring technical, commercial and programme objectives are achieved


• Providing technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and design personnel


• Conducting design reviews, risk assessments and engineering validation activities


• Collaborating with manufacturing, project management and site teams to ensure successful project execution


• Supporting client meetings, technical presentations and engineering reviews


• Identifying opportunities for innovation, continuous improvement and design optimisation


• Ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations and best practice

About You We are keen to speak with experienced mechanical engineers who can demonstrate:

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or eligibility to achieve chartership in the near future


• Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline


• Significant experience delivering complex mechanical engineering projects


• Proven background in heavy machinery, moving structures, hydraulic systems or large-scale infrastructure projects


• Strong understanding of structural and mechanical design principles


• Experience working within regulated engineering environments and relevant industry standards


• Excellent problem-solving, stakeholder management and project leadership skills


• The ability to lead technical decision-making and mentor developing engineers
