Description
- Prepare and analyse monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Support the budgeting and forecasting process, providing clear and actionable insights.
- Monitor financial performance and highlight variances to key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with departmental heads to develop and manage financial plans.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting standards.
- Provide support for audits and assist with the preparation of statutory accounts.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost efficiencies.
- Deliver financial reports and presentations to senior management as required.
A successful Senior Management Accountant should have:
- A professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ACA) or equivalent.
- Proven experience in management accounting within a not-for-profit or research environment, with a strong understanding of grant funding structures, restrictions, and reporting requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and monitor multiple funding streams, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and ensuring compliance with funder guidelines.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience partnering with researchers, project leads, and external funders to provide financial insight and support decision-making.
- Advanced technical accounting skills (e.g. accruals, prepayments, project accounting), with the ability to produce clear, accurate financial reports and translate complex financial data into meaningful insights.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Experience in preparing management accounts and financial analysis.
- Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong communication skills to convey complex financial information clearly.
- An ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
