Senior Maintenance Engineer
Senior Maintenance Engineer – Biomass Boilers
IEC Solutions
Job Type: Full\-time, Permanent
Location: Field Based
Salary: Competitive – dependent on experience
Company Vehicle: Provided
On\-Call: Weekend rota – minimum one weekend per month
About the Role
IEC Solutions is looking for an experienced and dependable Senior Maintenance Engineer to join our biomass boiler service and maintenance team.
This is predominantly a reactive maintenance, breakdown and repair role. You will attend commercial biomass boiler sites, diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs to get systems back into operation safely and efficiently.
As a Senior Engineer, you will be trusted to take ownership of jobs, work independently, make sensible decisions on site and communicate professionally with customers.
Previous biomass experience is highly desirable; however, we would also be interested in hearing from experienced mechanical/electrical engineers with a strong background in commercial or industrial plant maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Your day\-to\-day responsibilities will include:
- Attending biomass boiler breakdowns and reactive maintenance call\-outs
- Systematic fault finding and diagnosis of mechanical, electrical and control faults
- Identifying the root cause of failures rather than simply replacing components
- Repairing and replacing motors, pumps, gearboxes, fans, sensors, actuators, valves and other boiler components
- Minor electrical fault finding and component replacement
- Basic plumbing and heating\-system repairs
- Fuel\-feed system and auger repairs
- Minor welding and fabrication where required
- Combustion and boiler\-related repairs
- Testing equipment following repairs to ensure safe and correct operation
- Identifying parts, materials and further works required when repairs cannot be completed on the first visit
- Escalating particularly complex technical issues when required
Customer Liaison
You will often be the main point of contact between IEC Solutions and the customer while attending site.
We therefore need someone who is comfortable:
- Speaking directly with customers
- Clearly explaining faults and required repairs
- Keeping customers updated on progress
- Managing expectations when parts or further works are required
- Representing IEC Solutions professionally
- Identifying and reporting additional work or customer concerns to the service team
Accurate reporting is an important part of this position.
A clear job report must be completed for every site visit, detailing the fault identified, diagnostic work undertaken, repairs completed, parts replaced and any further work or materials required.
Reports should leave both the customer and our office team with a clear understanding of the condition of the equipment and what has been completed.
Weekend On\-Call Rota
Participation in our weekend on\-call rota is a requirement of the position.
You should expect to cover at least one weekend per month, responding to emergency breakdowns and customer call\-outs as required.
Additional weekend cover may occasionally be needed to cover holidays, sickness or operational requirements.
Supporting the Service Team
Although this is primarily a breakdown and maintenance position, we operate as one engineering team.
Occasionally, during periods of staff sickness, annual leave or high workload, you may be asked to assist with planned biomass boiler servicing, preventative maintenance or larger jobs alongside other engineers.
Skills \& Experience
Ideally, you will have experience in several of the following areas:
- Mechanical fault finding
- Electrical fault finding
- Industrial or commercial plant maintenance
- Pumps, motors and gearboxes
- Electrical controls and sensors
- Plumbing and heating systems
- Basic electrical repairs
- Welding and minor fabrication
- Combustion equipment
- Biomass boilers and associated equipment
Requirements
The successful candidate will need:
- Full UK driving licence
- Strong fault\-finding and problem\-solving skills
- Good practical mechanical ability
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for jobs
- Good communication and customer\-service skills
- Willingness to travel to customer sites
- Willingness to participate in the weekend on\-call rota
- Ability to work effectively as part of the wider engineering team
- Confidence working in commercial boiler rooms and plant environments
- A strong commitment to safe working practices
We're looking for someone who can be relied upon when a customer's boiler has failed.
You'll be expected to arrive on site, assess the problem logically, diagnose the fault and carry out an effective repair wherever possible.
Just as importantly, you'll take ownership of the job and ensure that both the customer and the office understand what has been done and whether anything further is required.
This role would suit an experienced engineer who enjoys fault finding and fixing problems, rather than simply carrying out repetitive planned servicing.
If you're a capable hands\-on engineer looking for a varied field\-based role with responsibility and the opportunity to work on a wide range of commercial biomass systems, we'd like to hear from you.
