Umar Tawil at CRA Consulting is currently working with a Local Authority in Kirklees who are looking to appoint a Senior Lawyer - Contracts & Commercial to join their Legal Services team.
This is an opportunity for a qualified lawyer at NQ level or above with experience in contracts, commercial law and, ideally, public sector procurement.
The Role
You will provide legal advice across a broad range of commercial and contractual matters, supporting the Council and its services with clear, practical and commercially focused advice.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Advising on a range of commercial contracts and agreements.
- Providing legal advice on procurement matters and public sector contracting.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts and associated documentation.
- Advising internal stakeholders on contractual risks and obligations.
- Supporting procurement exercises and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
- Working closely with Council departments and external stakeholders.
- Managing a varied caseload and providing timely, practical legal advice.
- Contributing to the wider development and delivery of the Council's Legal Services.
I'm keen to hear from qualified Solicitors, Barristers or CILEX Lawyers who have experience in Contracts & Commercial law, with procurement experience particularly desirable.
You will ideally have:
- NQ+ post-qualification experience.
- Experience dealing with commercial contracts.
- Knowledge or experience of public sector procurement.
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills.
- The ability to provide clear and practical legal advice.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Local Authority or wider public sector experience is highly desirable.
