Senior Hardware Systems Engineer

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Hardware Systems Engineer to join a leading engineering team based in Portsmouth. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex hardware and electrical systems, supporting the full engineering lifecycle from design and integration through to installation and commissioning.

• Location:Portsmouth


• Rate: £60.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce design, test, installation, and technical documentation.


• Support design proving activities, including environmental and Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) assessments.


• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware design issues.


• Design, build, and integrate electrical and hardware systems to achieve successful Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT(E)).


• Provide support to development and test systems.


• Support the installation, commissioning, and setting-to-work of hardware systems onboard ships.


• Work within configuration management processes and maintain system baselines.

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Experience within a hardware engineering environment.


• Knowledge of developing systems using Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) hardware components.


• Understanding of PC-based and blade server technologies.


• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, hands-on approach.


• Ability to work collaboratively and contribute across multiple areas of engineering activity.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

• Experience working within large and complex multi-project environments.


• Knowledge of COTS enclosures, cabinets, wiring schedules, power distribution, and related hardware design activities.


• Previous experience within the Defence sector.

Qualifications:

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering or a related STEM discipline.


• Professional registration with a recognised engineering institution would be advantageous.
