Are you passionate about geotechnics and infrastructure? Do you want to help shape the transport networks of the future and contribute to complex and innovative projects across all types of infrastructure? Would you like to be part of a large, highly skilled geotechnical team and have the opportunity to make a real impact?
If so, we would like to hear from you.
COWI is a global consulting group that delivers innovative and sustainable solutions to complex challenges within transport, energy, environment, water, industry, buildings, and urban planning. Together with our 7,300 dedicated employees, we push the boundaries of engineering design worldwide.
Our geotechnical team in Denmark consists of more than 120 highly skilled professionals and offers a full range of world\-class competencies within geotechnical engineering and tunnel design. Combined with strong local presence and experience, this enables us to take on some of the most challenging projects.
We work across a broad range of disciplines, contributing to projects including highways, metros, railways, bridges, tunnels, buildings, stormwater systems, energy infrastructure, and ground investigations. We cover all phases of the project lifecycle—from concept and design to construction, supervision, operation, and maintenance.
Your profile. Together we shape the future
As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering high\-quality solutions as part of a highly professional team providing consultancy, design, and project management services.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Taking technical ownership of geotechnical scope, guiding analyses, and ensuring sound engineering judgement across all project phases
- Leading and mentoring junior engineers through daily collaboration and technical reviews
- Leading the geotechnical discipline in multidisciplinary projects, including coordination with other disciplines
- Performing and reviewing design calculations (e.g. shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, support systems for excavations, shafts etc.)
- Translating design into clear input for drawings and specifications, and coordinating effectively with drafters and designers
- Acting as a technical point of contact for clients and partners, clearly communicating assumptions, risks, and decisions
You take ownership of your work and ensure tasks are delivered—often by structuring, delegating, and guiding others, while remaining actively involved yourself. You have strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of geotechnical and geo\-structural design, including soil–structure interaction.
You are self\-motivated, collaborative, and communicate clearly in both writing and speaking.
In addition, you have:
- At least a Diploma, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in geotechnical engineering or equivalent
- A strong foundation in geotechnical engineering with minimum 10 years of experience
- Proven ability to structure work, break down tasks, and lead junior engineers
- Experience in planning, specifying, and interpreting ground investigations and integrating results into design
- Experience with Danish projects and clients, and the ability to manage client and contractor dialogue independently
- Experience working with authorities such as the Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) and Railnet Denmark (Banedanmark)
- Strong experience with relevant modelling tools (e.g. PLAXIS, GeoStudio/Slope/W) and a clear understanding of their application and limitations
- Familiarity with design coordination and drawing production (e.g. AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit)
