Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced, commercially focused Senior Finance Manager to join our growing renewables installation business.
The Finance Manager will take responsibility for the day\-to\-day finance function and provide accurate, timely and commercially relevant financial information to the senior management team.
Working closely with Project Managers, Commercial, Operations, Procurement and Installation Teams, the Finance Manager will have a key role in monitoring the financial performance of renewable\-energy projects from initial mobilisation through to completion.
The role will have particular responsibility for project profitability, job costing, WIP, cost\-to\-complete forecasting, materials, labour, subcontractors, customer billing, cash flow and working capital.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management \& Month\-End
- Manage the day\-to\-day finance function.
- Lead the monthly management accounts process.
- Prepare accurate monthly P\&L, balance sheet and cash\-flow reporting.
- Complete balance\-sheet reconciliations and investigate variances.
- Manage journals, accruals, prepayments and provisions.
- Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.
- Ensure costs and revenues are correctly allocated to projects and cost centres.
- Maintain robust financial controls and accounting procedures.
- Ensure month\-end deadlines are consistently achieved.
- Provide clear financial reporting and analysis to senior management.
- Take financial ownership of multiple renewable\-energy installation projects.
- Work closely with Project Managers and Commercial Managers to monitor project performance.
- Track project revenue, costs and gross margins.
- Monitor labour, materials, plant, equipment, subcontractors and other installation costs.
- Compare actual costs against project budgets and forecasts.
- Review project cost\-to\-complete forecasts.
- Identify potential cost overruns and margin erosion at an early stage.
- Ensure all project costs are accurately captured and allocated.
- Analyse project profitability from mobilisation through to final completion.
- Support operational teams with financial analysis and commercial decision\-making.
- Prepare and maintain rolling cash\-flow forecasts.
- Monitor customer receipts and outstanding debt.
- Ensure invoices are raised promptly and accurately.
- Monitor payment milestones and customer payment terms.
- Work with Project Managers and Commercial teams to resolve billing issues.
- Produce aged\-debt reports and support credit\-control activity.
- Manage supplier and subcontractor payment schedules.
- Monitor cash requirements across the project portfolio.
- Identify opportunities to improve cash conversion and working capital.
- Oversee the purchase ledger function.
- Ensure supplier invoices are accurately processed and authorised.
- Monitor purchase orders and committed costs.
- Track major equipment and material purchases against project budgets.
- Work closely with Procurement to monitor supplier pricing and payment terms.
- Maintain accurate subcontractor accounts.
- Review and process subcontractor applications and invoices.
- Ensure subcontractor costs are allocated correctly to projects.
- Monitor payment schedules and outstanding balances.
- Work with the Commercial team to ensure subcontractor commitments are incorporated into project forecasts.
- Oversee payroll in conjunction with HR and/or external payroll providers.
- Monitor installation and operational labour costs.
- Ensure labour costs are allocated correctly to projects.
- Analyse overtime, expenses and other labour\-related costs.
- Support management with analysis of labour utilisation and project labour costs.
- Identify opportunities to improve labour\-cost efficiency.
- Support the annual budgeting process.
- Prepare project and departmental budgets.
- Produce regular revenue and gross\-margin forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budget.
- Investigate material variances.
- Prepare scenario analysis to support management decisions.
- Assist with financial modelling for new projects and business opportunities.
- Support the senior management team with longer\-term financial planning.
- Oversee preparation of VAT returns.
- Ensure CIS requirements are correctly administered where applicable.
- Maintain accurate statutory records.
- Assist with year\-end accounts and statutory reporting.
- Liaise with external accountants and auditors.
- Support corporation\-tax reporting and other statutory requirements.
- Ensure appropriate documentation and audit trails are maintained.
As the business continues to grow, the Finance Manager will be expected to improve the scalability and efficiency of the finance function.
Responsibilities will include:
- Improving finance processes and controls.
- Developing project\-level financial reporting.
- Improving integration between finance, project\-management and operational systems.
- Automating manual processes where possible.
- Improving data accuracy and reporting.
- Developing management dashboards and KPIs.
- Ensuring project information is accurately reflected in the finance system.

Essential
- Proven experience as a Finance Manager, Management Accountant, Financial Controller or similar.
- Experience within renewables, construction, engineering, electrical contracting, utilities, infrastructure or another project\-based environment.
- Strong management\-accounting experience.
- Experience managing month\-end and producing management accounts.
- Good understanding of project accounting, WIP and job costing.
- Experience with cost\-to\-complete forecasting.
- Strong cash\-flow and working\-capital experience.
- Experience managing purchase and sales ledgers.
- Strong Excel skills.
- Experience using accounting/ERP systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem\-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with non\-financial stakeholders.
- Previous experience in renewable energy.
- Experience with solar PV, battery storage, heat pumps, EV infrastructure or other renewable technologies.
- Construction or engineering project\-accounting experience.
- Experience with CVRs or similar project\-cost reporting.
- Experience managing subcontractors and CIS.
- Experience with job\-costing/project\-management software.
- Experience in a high\-growth SME.
- Qualified ACA, ACCA, CIMA or AAT, or equivalent relevant experience.
