The Senior Finance & Grant Officer serves as the dedicated financial steward and

primary compliance gatekeeper responsible for the end-to-end financial management

of a portfolio of assigned projects, grants, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Description

1. SLA & Project Setup Support (Central Control)

  • Participate in the review of the final budget prepared by Regional Finance and
Country Teams, focusing on alignment with the SLA/Grant agreement and the

cash flow phasing/milestones.

  • Enter SLA budgets, project structures, milestones, donor conditions, and
billing schedules into the ERP.
  • Ensure correct coding, dimensions, donor rules, and financial attributes are
applied.
  • Prepare project setup documentation for review and approval by Financial
Controller -Projects & Grants.

2. Billing & Income Preparation

  • Vet milestones and confirm achievement before triggering billing to donors.

  • Upload supporting documentation to ERP for AR processing.

  • Monitor donor receipts and ensure correct posting; escalate discrepancies
as needed.
  • Trigger fund transfers to country offices based on verified milestone
achievement.

3. Project Monitoring

  • Oversee expenditure vs budget and highlight variances.

  • Act as final central reviewer for project financial reports before donor
submission.
  • Ensure donor compliance, including cost recovery and overhead application.

  • Monitor fund flows and maintain visibility of available funds to support
project delivery.

4. Issue Resolution

  • Investigate discrepancies in income, postings, or project reporting.

  • Prepare adjustments or refund documentation for AP/AR execution.

  • Ensure correct processing of donor fund adjustments.
5. Project Closure Support
  • Prepare final reconciliations for income, expenditure, advances,
commitments, and donor balances.
  • Ensure completeness of financial documentation for donor reporting and
audit files

6. Relationship with Finance Officer Shared Services (Transactional Team)

  • Finance Officers -Shared Services executes cash transactions, posting, and
aged reports and chase the arrears.
  • SFGO ensures accuracy of project-related entries, billing, and fund transfers,
maintaining central oversight.

7. Day-to-Day Activities

  • Lead the implementation, refinement, and continuous improvement of
automated reporting and accounting processes.
  • Identify additional opportunities to streamline financial workflows and
enhance data quality.

8. Performance Measures

  • Streamline processes to free capacity for analytical and judgment-based
work.
  • Deliver faster and more accurate project-level reporting and donor financial
updates.
  • Produce actionable insights from financial data rather than purely
transactional outputs.

9. Digital Finance Mindset

  • Place strong emphasis on continuous improvement, growth, and learning.

  • Foster interest in technology, ERP systems, and digital finance solutions.

  • Encourage exploration, experimentation, and innovative ways of working.

  • Cultivate a process improvement mindset across the finance function.

  • Demonstrate success in leading one or more complex or challenging finance
projects

Profile

A successful Senior Finance & Grants Officer should have:

  • Strong experience in finance and grants management within the Not For Profit sector.

  • Knowledge of financial reporting standards and grant compliance requirements.

  • Proficiency in financial software and tools.

  • Attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.

  • Ability to analyse financial data and provide actionable insights.

  • Strong communication skills to liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • A relevant qualification in accounting, finance or a related field.

Job Offer
  • Hourly rate of £18.00 to £20.00, dependent on the level of experience.

  • Temporary contract offering flexibility.
