What you will do

CESI has been engaged for decades in consulting on high alternating voltage (HVAC) and high direct voltage (HVDC) infrastructure, studying the feasibility of interconnections, developing technical specifications, providing owner engineering, quality assurance, and commissioning services. CESI has carried out outstanding activities around the world, from Italy to Europe, China, South America, North America, Central Asia and the Middle East. CESI's expertise and experience are recognized worldwide, having worked on behalf of leading transmission system operators and international investors.

As a Senior Expert HVDC, you will be part of our team working on the main power equipment/systems of HVAC and HVDC stations.

After an initial period of integration and familiarization with our methodology and approach at the headquarters of the CESI branch in Milan, commercial activity will also require the availability of periods abroad whose duration can vary from a few days to a few weeks.

As a Senior Expert HVDC at CESI S.p.A., your main responsibilities will include:

• A good knowledge of the fundamentals of the electricity system;


• A good understanding of the application of the most common software tools for network modeling (e.g., PSCAD, ATP, EMTP\-RV, PSSE, DigSilent or equivalent);


• In the feasibility phase, you will contribute to the selection of optimal parameters for HVAC and HVDC equipment, to be chosen through networks and performance studies;


• When defining the specifications of an HVAC or HVDC substation, you will have to define the station layout, electromechanical layout, selection of main equipment (e.g. transformers), as well as possible filter banks (shunt compensators, reactors, ...), auxiliary equipment and control and protection systems;


• The construction/commissioning phase follows acceptance tests at the factory and on site, ensuring the quality of the products supplied.

As a Senior Expert HVDC, you will interact directly with customers and ensure delivery excellence in full compliance with the technical and economic objectives of the project. For the execution of the projects, you will coordinate the activities of the junior engineers.

What you bring

Among all your other talents, your key knowledge and experience is:

Experience \& Knowledge

• Master or Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering


• Main HVAC and HVDC components (transformers, breakers, disconnectors, filters, bushings, switchgears, smoothing reactors and surge arresters)


• Software tools for network modeling (e.g. PSSE, PSCAD, ATP, DigSilent or equivalent)


• Applicable standards for Converter Stations


• At least 10 years of experience

Skills and competences

• Optimization of internal and external resources


• Project coordination and scheduling


• Flexibility to lead consultancy in very different countries


• Capability to interact with the client


• Skill in managing complex and challenging projects


• Fluency in English is required. The knowledge of other foreign languages will be considered a plus (particularly Arabic, Spanish or French)
