The organization and the research focus

Olweus is Head of the Dept. of Cancer Immunology at Oslo University Hospital Radiumhospitalet and leads a research group in the department, and holds a position as Professor at the University of Oslo (UiO). The main focus of the research group of Olweus is to develop novel T\-cell receptor\-based cancer immunotherapies and new technologies for target and TCR identification, and to couple clinical immunotherapy trials with penetrating mechanistic analyses. The research is performed in an interdisciplinary and translational program. The enthusiastic research team of 20 persons is highly international and conducts research in close collaboration with world\-leading international collaborators at institutions such as Netherlands Cancer Institute and Karolinska Institutet.

Responsibilities
--------------------

The engineer will be working on cancer immunotherapy related projects with focus on mouse models using state of the art patient\-derived xenograft models and xenografts in collaboration with PhD students and post docs in the Olweus group. The work will include mouse strain management as well as in vitro and in vivo experiments assessing efficacy of T cell immunotherapy on relevant cancer models. The position is for one year, with possibility for prolongation, and the start date is as soon as possible.
Qualifications
------------------

Required:

  • A doctoral degree equivalent to a Norwegian PhD in a relevant scientific discipline, preferably within immunology, biology, or a closely related field.

  • Postdoctoral experience in T cell receptor (TCR) assessment, target validation, and related project activities.

  • Extensive expertise in the field of cancer immunotherapy.

  • Certification in laboratory animal science (FELASA\-C or equivalent).

  • A minimum of five years of hands\-on experience with in vivo studies, including experimental design, animal handling, and standard administration techniques (e.g., intravenous and intraperitoneal injections), as well as pre\-conditioning procedures. Experience must include the use of clinically relevant mouse models across a range of cancers, including both solid tumors and hematological malignancies.

  • Proven experience in planning and conducting immunology\-focused laboratory work, including mammalian cell culture, T cell isolation, retroviral transduction of cell lines and primary lymphocytes, and functional T cell assays (e.g., cytotoxicity assays, ELISA, and ELISpot).

  • Extensive experience with analytical techniques used to evaluate in vivo activity, including IVIS imaging, flow cytometry, cell sorting, and immunofluorescence staining of whole mounts and tissue sections.

  • Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
  • Experience in mouse colony management, including breeding, genotyping, and record\-keeping.

  • A strong publication record demonstrating core expertise in immunology and T cell–based immunotherapy.

  • Proven ability to design, plan, and execute advanced experiments in cancer immunology, with a high standard of accuracy and thorough documentation of experimental data.Experience with molecular biology methods with emphasis on RNA/DNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, rtPCR, vector design and validation.

  • Experience in protein biology (e.g. immunoprecipitation and western blot)

Personal skills
