Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) is a model 4, voluntary, academic teaching hospital partnered with Trinity College and situated in south west Dublin. With a staff of over 4,000 people from 63 different countries, it provides both acute and tertiary care to an increasing population of circa 800,000 people and is a provider of local, regional and national specialties. It is also a National Urology Centre, the second largest provider of dialysis services in the country, Pelvic and Acetabulum National Centre and a designated Trauma Unit.

The Hospital is part of the newly established HSE Dublin \& Midlands Region, which serves a population of over 1\.2 million across seven counties, and operates under the governance of an independent Board of Directors who give their time on a voluntary basis. Purpose of the Role:

The TUH Dietetics Department provides services to TUH patients discharged to off\-site locations, which are under the Governance of TUH. We are recruiting two senior Dietitians, for these locations. One is Tymon North, where MDT services are well established. A new service is due to commence in a new location in Clondalkin, where the senior Dietitian will be responsible for establishing and delivering Dietetic services for patients transferred from TUH.

In both locations, the senior Dietitians will work in collaboration with the full multi\-disciplinary team to coordinate patient care and expedite patient discharges. The Dietitians will work closely with their Dietitian colleagues in TUH on the transfer and delivery of patient care.

Overview of Role:

Key Duties and Responsibilities* Provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients transferred from TUH

  • Map service provision, in collaboration with the Dietitian managers

  • Develop and implement protocols/procedures for nutritional screening, referral, assessment and intervention

  • Monitor and evaluate service provision and report on same periodically

  • Provide expert nutritional advice for the multidisciplinary team and actively engage with the team by attending ward rounds, conferences, lunch meetings and grand rounds

  • Record statistical information and produce reports as required

  • Supervise and support junior staff members and Dietetic assistants, where relevant

  • Attend Departmental meetings in TUH on a regular basis

  • Participate in the clinical training of Student Dietitians on placement in TUH

  • Contribute to the Departments upskilling program for Dietitians which will provide an opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills to work in other specialties

  • Be responsible for his/her own professional development and keep abreast of developments in Nutrition and Dietetics

  • Contribute to the enhancement of clinical practice through participation in quality improvement initiatives , audit and research

  • Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of standards and policies relating to the Nutrition \& Dietetic service

  • Carry out other duties appropriate to the post, as may be assigned by the Manager of Nutrition \& Dietetics
Qualifications \& Experience required

Must:* Be registered as a Dietitian by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU

  • Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Dietitians Register maintained by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU
And* Have at least 3 years full time (or equivalent) post qualification clinical dietetic experience
  • Be proficient in the provision of artificial nutrition support (Enteral and Parenteral)

  • Have experience in discharging patients from hospital on artificial nutrition support
Desirable:* Be a member of the Irish Nutrition \& Dietetic Institute
  • Full clean Drivers License

  • Experience in the supervision of junior Dietitians and/or students and/or therapy assistants

  • Recent relevant experience in a similar acute hospital setting.

  • Evidence of relevant service development/quality improvement experience.

  • Recent evidence of continuing professional development
Reward \& Recognition* Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales, grade code 3395
  • The appointment is Full time, pensionable and permanent.

  • The annual leave entitlement is 29 working days per year. The leave year runs from 1st April to the 31st of March each year

  • Normal working hours are 35 hours worked over 5 days. Your contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8 am to 8 pm over 7 days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement

Age Restrictions In Relation To Applications

You are obliged to disclose previous and any criminal convictions acquitted during the course of your employment. Should the Hospital obtain information from the Garda vetting unit to indicate that your Garda clearance report is not satisfactory and / or if you have supplied the Hospital with false or misleading information in relation to your Garda clearance status, the Hospital reserves the right to withdraw or terminate the contract in accordance with Tallaght University Hospital Garda vetting policy.
