Our client is a well\-established and growing engineering and manufacturing business that specialises in the design, fabrication and production of bespoke metalwork solutions for a diverse customer base across industrial sectors.

With a strong reputation for quality, technical expertise and customer service, the business delivers both one\-off and batch\-manufactured projects, working closely with customers to provide practical, cost\-effective engineering solutions.

Due to continued growth, they are now looking to appoint a Senior Design Engineer to take ownership of engineering activities across multiple projects and play a key role in supporting operational delivery.

This is a senior, hands\-on engineering position offering the opportunity to influence engineering standards, improve processes and provide technical leadership within a collaborative manufacturing environment.

The Role

The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for managing the engineering aspects of projects from initial enquiry and quotation through to manufacture and delivery.

Working closely with production teams, suppliers and wider business functions, you will ensure engineering outputs are accurate, commercially viable and suitable for efficient manufacture.

A key part of the role will involve providing technical oversight and support to junior engineering personnel, helping to maintain high standards of engineering documentation and project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed fabrication and mechanical engineering drawings using SolidWorks.


• Lead engineering activities across projects from enquiry through to production.


• Coordinate and review engineering and design outputs to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.


• Support quotation activities through Bills of Materials (BOMs), material take\-offs and manufacturing input.


• Identify cost\-effective engineering solutions, materials and fabrication methods.


• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing and technical information.


• Provide technical support to manufacturing teams, resolving engineering queries during production.


• Ensure drawings and engineering documentation comply with quality standards and customer specifications.


• Promote design\-for\-manufacture principles and continuous improvement initiatives.


• Support the development and implementation of engineering best practice across the business.

This opportunity would suit an experienced Senior Design Engineer with a strong background in fabrication, manufacturing or mechanical engineering environments.

Key Experience \& Skills

• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, including parts, assemblies and fabrication drawings.


• Experience working within fabrication, manufacturing or mechanical engineering environments.


• Ability to produce accurate, detailed engineering drawings suitable for manufacture.


• Experience supporting project quotations, Bills of Materials and material take\-offs.


• Good understanding of fabrication processes and manufacturing techniques.


• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.


• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with production teams, suppliers and stakeholders.
