Senior Clinical Fellow in Gastroenterology
The S enior Clinical Fellow will be a valued team member, participating in in\-patient and outpatient care of gastroenterology and general medical patients . Whilst covering the wards the post\-holder would be expected to participate in ward\-rounds and mu lti\-disciplinary team meetings.

You will work under the supervision of the Gastroenterology Consultants and usually be based on the Preston Site, although you may be asked to cover duties at the Chorley site when required. There will be opportunities to see in\-patient Gastroenterology referrals and attend specialist out\-patient clinics. When not covering the wards the successful applicant would be expected to attend a wider number of speciality clinics as well as endoscopy ses sions. The post permanent an d will provide good training in Gastroenterology with exposure to some tertia ry specialist services.
The gastro SCF will form a key part of the gastroenterology team. Whilst covering the wards the post\-holder would be expected to participate in ward\-rounds and ward multi\-disciplinary team meetings. There are daily Consultant ward rounds providing ample opportunities for teaching and development on a dedicated Gastroenterology ward.
There are a variable number of outlying medical patients who are shared between existing medical teams. There will be opportunities to see in\-patient Gastroenterology referrals and attend specialist out\-patient clinics such as Viral Hepatitis, Nutrition and Hepatology. When not covering the wards , the successful applicant would be expected to attend clinics as well as endoscopy ses sions. The post will provide training in Gastroenterology with exposure to some tertiary specialist services.
Modern Education Centres are based at both Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites and offer excellent library and study facilities, including PC/Internet support for staff and students.
As a Teaching Hospital, we encourage all our staff to participate in teaching and training at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. We are committed to developing our teaching and academic activities and can facilitate meeting any training needs for these roles.
We support the requirements for Continuing Medical Education as laid down by the Royal Colleges and are committed to providing time and financial support for these activities. The Trust will pay the annual subscription so that you can access the JRCPTB national e\-portfolio. This will enable you to collect evidence of your experience and the attainment of specific competencies. You will also be provided with an educational supervisor and be encouraged to undertake assessments (SLEs, MSFs etc) in line with speciality trainees. This will be particularly valuable for doctors who may want to join a training program in the future or for those who may want to apply for CESR.
You will receive the full support of the Trust and the Directorate to develop specialist areas of interest in line with Directorate business plans and the development of services generally within the Trust.
