Senior Clinical Fellow in Intensive Care Medicine

12 Month Fixed term Contract

JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic people to join our dedicated team in Critical Care. Our team consists of 11 consultants, 24 junior doctors, and over 100 nurses and AHPs in our two Critical Care units.

About the units

  • St Helier ICU: 13 beds, providing full level 3 and 2 care.

  • Epsom HDU: 6\-8 level 2 beds.

  • Annual admissions: 1400 patients, including 700 emergency medical patients, 350 emergency surgical patients, and 350 patients following complex elective surgery.

Main duties of the job


  • THE POST

  • KeyDutiesandResponsibilities

  • Epsom and St. Helier based duties: Fixed term 6 to 12 months in Critical Care department (ICU and HDU) cross site(Epsom and St. Helier)

  • The main aim of the post is to enable the post holder to recognise potentially life\-threatening situations and equip them with the knowledge and skills to initiate immediate resuscitative measures. It will also train them in the appropriate use and interpretation of cardio\-pulmonary monitoring. Training will be competency\-based, according to the recommendations of the Inter\- Collegiate Board for training in Intensive Care Medicine and continuous assessment and 360 degree appraisals will also be employed. There will be regular consultant\-led teaching sessions

  • The successful candidate will be able to develop research and education skills.

  • The senior clinical fellow will be supported at all times by the Consultants and also involves supervising junior fellows. As per the experience and seniority the rota slot will be allocated either on the senior tier or junior tier

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


  • On\-call

  • The post has night on\-call commitment based on a 1:8 rota, which will be based at St Helier Hospital, covering ICU and HDU. There will be 2 junior doctors every night. In day time there will be minimum 4 junior doctors in the unit. The unit is always covered by a consultant intensivist, who is on\-site from 8 AM to 9 PM and then on\-call (non\-resident). Currently Epsom unit cover is only day time (8AM to 6PM) by critical care juniors. Night cover at Epsom will be provided by Anaeasthetic team

  • There is a very close link between critical care unit and anaesthetic department. The on call critical care junior doctor and anaesthetic junior doctor are expected to work as a team and help out each other as required.

  • Full registration with GMC\- This is a must have requirement for the post

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

  • Post Graduate Qualification

  • Minimum 2 year experience in Emergency medicine/General Medicine or one of branches/Anaesthesia/ Criti cal Care/Surgery in St1/2 level

  • Provider in ATLS, APLS, ALS or similar

  • No more than 6 months employment gap immediately before the application closing date
