Senior Bookkeeper (Part-Time, Site Based)

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established business seeking an experienced senior bookkeeper to join their busy office function. This is a pivotal, hands-on role working closely with Directors and a small, collaborative team. The business is in a rural location, so a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
The Role
This is a varied and integral stand-alone position within a fast-paced environment, combining core finance responsibilities with payroll and wider office support. You will take ownership of day-to-day accounts processes while helping to keep the office running efficiently.
Key responsibilities include:
- Processing sales and purchase invoices with accurate coding
- Managing customer payments and deposit tracking across financial periods
- Running weekly and monthly payment cycles, including BACS
- Credit control, including escalation and small claims processes
- Bank and credit card reconciliations
- Managing bi-weekly payroll
- Producing detailed weekly financial reports (Excel-based) with year-on-year comparisons
- VAT returns and pension administration
- Onboarding new employees, including right-to-work compliance
- Managing staff holidays and maintaining records
- Handling calls and emails, responding appropriately to customers and enquiries
- Supporting supplier engagement, quotes, and ordering
- Petty cash management
- Providing general administrative support to the Directors
- Processing customer orders and handling enquiries for a seasonal product line
- Proven experience in a similar accounts and payroll role within a commercial environment
- Strong working knowledge of Sage 50 Accounts Professional and Sage 50 Payroll
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to produce detailed reports
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Confident communicator, comfortable dealing with customers, suppliers and colleagues
- Proactive, adaptable, and able to prioritise effectively in a busy setting
- A positive, “can-do” attitude and willingness to support across the wider office
- Competitive hourly rate (dependent on experience)
