THE ROLE, BACKEND ENGINEER

As a Backend Engineer, you will design and maintain the sophisticated APIs and data systems that power the company's AI-driven sports products. You will work with real time data at scale, translating complex sports logic into clean, efficient, high-performance code.

This is a hands-on role in a small team, with the autonomy to own what you build, from design through to deployment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Design, build and maintain robust, scalable APIs using Python and FastAPI

Work with real time data streaming, including SSE and WebSockets

Translate complex sports data and logic into clean, efficient backend code

Ensure systems are performant, reliable and well architected

Own your work end to end, including deployment and ongoing iteration

Collaborate closely with a small, high-calibre team to ship quickly

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

Strong backend engineering experience, ideally with Python and FastAPI (stack is flexible if you are happy working in this environment)

Solid experience with PostgreSQL, Docker and AWS

A deep understanding of asynchronous programming and real time data

Strong system design skills, able to solve complex problems from first principles

Comfortable with the autonomy and pace of a small team

A genuine sports fan who understands the game and the data behind it is ideal

Right to work in the UK, no sponsorship is available for this role
