We're currently seeking passionate individuals who are excited about the opportunity to contribute to an industry-shaping company while growing their own skills and careers.</span></em></p></div><p class="p1">We’re looking for a <span class="s1"><strong>Senior Backend Engineer</strong></span> to join our WebRTC squad and help build, operate, and evolve the backend services behind our real-time communications and Voice SDK platform.</p>
<p class="p1">Our SDKs are supported by a number of backend services responsible for areas such as authentication and token management, push notifications, proxying, RTC DNS, and diagnostic logging. As these systems continue to grow, we’re looking for a dedicated backend engineer who can take ownership of these services and help improve their reliability, scalability, observability, and overall architecture.</p>
<p class="p1">You’ll work closely with our mobile and JavaScript SDK engineers, taking ownership of backend systems from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, scaling, and production support.</p>
<p class="p1">This is a systems-focused backend role for someone who enjoys working on distributed production services, solving reliability problems, and understanding how applications, networks, and infrastructure interact in real-world communication systems.</p>
<h2><span class="s1"><strong>What You’ll Do</strong></span></h2>
<ul>
<li>Design, build, maintain, and operate backend services supporting our WebRTC and Voice SDK products.</li>
<li>Take ownership of backend systems including Voice SDK proxy services, authentication and token services, push notification services, RTC DNS, and diagnostic logging.</li>
<li>Improve the reliability, scalability, and maintainability of customer-facing backend services.</li>
<li>Improve connection setup, authentication flows, routing, and service behavior across real-time communication workloads.</li>
<li>Build and improve observability through logs, metrics, dashboards, alerts, and other operational tooling.</li>
<li>Improve visibility into push notification delivery and help make integrations with services such as APNs and FCM easier to monitor and troubleshoot.</li>
<li>Diagnose production issues across backend services, networking layers, and client connectivity.</li>
<li>Improve deployment processes, rollout safety, and production readiness for distributed services.</li>
<li>Turn recurring customer and operational issues into durable engineering improvements.</li>
<li>Collaborate closely with mobile, JavaScript, infrastructure, and other engineering teams to improve end-to-end reliability.</li>
<li>Help shape the architecture and technical direction of the backend systems supporting our WebRTC products.</li>
</ul>
<h2><span class="s1"><strong>You’d Be A Good Fit If You Have</strong></span></h2>
<ul>
<li>Strong professional experience building and operating <span class="s1"><strong>backend systems in production</strong></span>.</li>
<li>Strong experience working with <span class="s1"><strong>distributed systems</strong></span> and service-oriented architectures.</li>
<li>Experience with <span class="s1"><strong>Elixir or Erlang</strong></span>, or strong backend engineering experience with the ability and willingness to ramp up quickly in Elixir.</li>
<li>Experience building or operating <span class="s1"><strong>real-time, low-latency, or connection-oriented systems</strong></span>.</li>
<li>Strong understanding of backend fundamentals such as authentication, service communication, session lifecycle, reliability, and failure recovery.</li>
<li>Experience owning services throughout their lifecycle, including design, development, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and scaling.</li>
<li>Experience with <span class="s1"><strong>Kubernetes, containers, CI/CD</strong></span>, and modern production infrastructure.</li>
<li>A strong observability mindset, including experience with <span class="s1"><strong>logging, metrics, dashboards, alerting, and root-cause analysis</strong></span>.</li>
<li>Good understanding of networking fundamentals and the ability to troubleshoot issues across software, networking, and infrastructure boundaries.</li>
<li>Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers working across different parts of the stack.</li>
</ul>
<h2><span class="s1"><strong>Nice to Have</strong></span></h2>
<ul>
<li><span class="s1">Experience with </span><span class="s2"><strong>WebRTC, VoIP, voice/video communications, or other real-time communication systems</strong></span><span class="s1">.</span></li>
<li>Experience with <span class="s1"><strong>WebSockets</strong></span> or other persistent connection technologies.</li>
<li>Experience working with push notification infrastructure such as <span class="s1"><strong>APNs or FCM</strong></span>.</li>
<li><span class="s1">Experience with </span><span class="s2"><strong>DNS, edge routing, service discovery, or globally distributed systems</strong></span><span class="s1">.</span></li>
<li>Experience building internal diagnostic, observability, or troubleshooting tools.</li>
<li>Experience building backend services that support <span class="s1"><strong>mobile or JavaScript SDKs</strong></span>.</li>
