£12,042 \- £16,056 actual salary (dependent on experience) term time only \- 39 weeks a year
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Mentor to join our alternative provision setting, supporting young people with a range of additional needs. This role involves working closely with students who may display challenging behaviours and have needs such as ADHD, Autism, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties.
You will play a vital role in helping students re\-engage with education, build confidence, and develop positive coping strategies within a safe, nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual needs
- Build strong, positive relationships with young people to support engagement and trust
- Support students in managing behaviour and emotions using a therapeutic approach
- Adapt learning and activities to meet diverse needs and interests
- Work collaboratively with staff, families, and external professionals
- Contribute to a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with young people with SEND, particularly those with ADHD, Autism, and challenging behaviours
- Takes a therapeutic, trauma\-informed approach to supporting young people
- Is calm, adaptable, and resilient under pressure
- Has excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships
- Is proactive, patient, and empathetic
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience or skills in:
- Outdoor learning or forest school
- Music therapy or creative arts (art therapy, drama, etc.)
- Land\-based skills, horticulture, or animal care
- Home cooking skills
- A supportive and forward\-thinking team environment
