SEN Teaching Assistant

Forest of Dean, Full-Time, Long-Term Opportunity, ASAP Start

Some children need a teaching assistant. Some need someone who genuinely gets them.

We’re looking for an SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist community setting in the Forest of Dean, supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs.

This is not a role where you simply sit alongside a pupil and tick off a list of tasks. You’ll be part of a team that understands that progress can look very different from one child to the next, sometimes it’s completing a piece of work, sometimes it’s communicating a need, managing a difficult moment, or simply having a really good day.

What will you be doing?

You’ll work alongside experienced teachers and support staff to:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support where needed

  • Help pupils access learning in a way that works for them

  • Support communication, emotional regulation and social development

  • Promote independence, confidence and positive relationships

  • Respond calmly and consistently to challenging situations

  • Build genuine, trusting relationships with pupils

  • Be part of a wider team focused on helping every child achieve their potential

Who are we looking for?

You don't necessarily need a formal SEN qualification. What matters most is your experience, attitude and ability to connect with children who may communicate, learn or behave differently.

You could be an experienced SEN TA, support worker, youth worker, teaching assistant, childcare professional or someone with valuable experience supporting children with additional needs.

SEN experience is highly desirable, particularly experience with complex needs, communication difficulties, autism or challenging behaviour.

Most importantly, you’ll need patience, resilience, consistency and a genuine desire to make a difference.

Why work through Thrive Education?

At Thrive, we don’t believe in putting people into schools simply because there is a gap to fill.

We take the time to understand you, your experience and the type of setting where you will thrive, because the right match makes a difference to everyone.

You'll also receive ongoing support from a consultant who actually knows the schools and settings you are working in.

If you’re looking for a role where the small wins really do feel like big wins, we’d love to hear from you.
