SEN Teaching Assistant

SEN Secondary School – Trafford
Full-Time | September Start

Teaching Personnel is proud to be working in partnership with a specialist SEN secondary school in the Trafford area, supporting students with complex and diverse additional needs. This is a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant position, starting September, offering a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to young people’s lives.

About the School

This specialist setting supports pupils aged 11–16 with a range of complex needs, including autism spectrum condition (ASC), severe and moderate learning difficulties (SLD/MLD), speech and language needs and sensory processing difficulties. The school provides a nurturing, highly supportive learning environment where every child is valued as an individual and encouraged to reach their full potential.


The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students both academically and emotionally, helping them to access learning and develop essential life skills.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with complex needs

  • Assisting the class teacher in delivering differentiated and accessible lessons

  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour and communication

  • Implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and tailored learning strategies

  • Encouraging independence, confidence and social skills

  • Supporting pupils with personal care, where required

  • Creating a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment

Requirements

We are keen to hear from candidates who are passionate about SEN and committed to supporting vulnerable young people.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience working with children or young people with SEN or complex needs (school, care, or support work experience welcomed)

  • Be patient, resilient and empathetic

  • Have a genuine interest in special education and inclusive learning

  • Be confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour or additional emotional needs

  • Be able to work effectively as part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team

  • Have an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply through Teaching Personnel)
