SEN Teaching Assistant- Graduates and previous Care workers


Location: Newport (NP20)
Contract: Full-time

We are recruiting a full-time Teaching Assistant for a specialist school in Newport. This role is particularly suited to individuals with experience in care/ residential settings who are looking to move into education and support young people with ALN.

About the School The school supports pupils with a range of additional learning needs (ALN), including autism, social, emotional and behavioural needs, and complex learning difficulties.

It offers a structured, supportive environment with a strong focus on consistency, routine, and individual development.

The Role You will support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them engage with learning and develop independence. This role is ideal for anyone considering a career in teaching, educational psychology, or further work within care or support services.

Key Responsibilities • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with additional needs

  • Assist teachers with lesson delivery and classroom management

  • Support behaviour using clear and consistent strategies

  • Help pupils develop communication, social, and life skills

  • Create a safe, structured, and positive learning environment

  • Support with personal care where required

  • Monitor progress and report back to teaching staff

  • Follow safeguarding procedures at all times
