SEN Support Worker

CREATED is looking for part\-time 1:1 Support Staff to work with learners across our specialist alternative provision and SEND settings.

This role is about relationships, consistency and practical support. You will work directly with young people who may have SEND, SEMH needs, anxiety, communication needs, gaps in education, low confidence or previous negative experiences of school.

You will need patience, resilience and the ability to stay calm and consistent when a learner is finding the day difficult. The role requires practical support, emotional intelligence and a clear understanding that progress may be gradual, but still significant.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Providing 1:1 support for learners with SEND, SEMH needs and additional barriers to learning.


• Helping learners access lessons, vocational activities, English and maths, interventions or wider provision.


• Supporting emotional regulation, communication, confidence and positive routines.


• Working closely with teachers, tutors, pastoral staff, SENCO and safeguarding leads.


• Encouraging attendance, engagement and progress.


• Supporting behaviour positively and consistently.


• Recording relevant information accurately and passing on concerns appropriately.


• Helping create a safe, respectful and encouraging learning environment.

We’re Looking For Someone Who

• Has experience working with SEND students.


• Can build trust with young people who may not trust adults immediately.


• Is calm, consistent and reliable.


• Understands that behaviour is communication, but also that boundaries still matter.


• Can support learning without doing the work for the learner.


• Can work as part of a team and follow support plans.


• Communicates professionally and knows when to ask for support.


• Believes small steps in attendance, engagement, confidence or self\-regulation are meaningful progress.

Essential Requirements

• Experience supporting SEND learners or young people with additional needs.


• Strong safeguarding awareness.


• Calm and positive approach to behaviour and emotional regulation.


• Ability to work part\-time and flexibly within the needs of the provision.


• Good communication and record\-keeping skills.


• Commitment to inclusive, relational and aspirational support.

Desirable

• Experience in alternative provision, specialist education, youth work, mentoring, care, SEMH support or post\-16 provision.


• Training in autism, ADHD, trauma\-informed practice, de\-escalation, mental health or behaviour support.


• Experience supporting English, maths, vocational learning or community\-based activities.
