Teaching Assistant - Alternative Education Provision

• Job Type: Temporary to Permanent, Full-time (35 hours per week, Monday – Friday, term time only)


• Location: Kings Lynn, Norfolk


• Hourly rate: £14.24 - £16.15 (depending on experience)

We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our alternative education provision in Kings Lynn, Norfolk. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about working with students who have emotional and behavioural difficulties in a small group setting. The position requires flexibility, sensitivity, patience, and resilience.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Work with individuals and small groups of students to ensure they remain engaged and complete activities set by the teacher.


• Address behavioural and special needs issues in conjunction with the teacher.


• Deliver SEN interventions and assist in implementing lesson plans, aims, and content alongside the teacher.


• Provide feedback directly to students and take small groups for defined activities.


• Support the teacher in testing and assessment and provide individual student and group counselling as required.


• Provide detailed written reports to address complex student needs.


• Carry out specific specialist responsibilities (e.g., speech therapy) and support other staff, including briefing and supporting new staff on student development stages.


• Manage meetings with external contacts such as parents and educational psychologists.


• Lead on professional development sessions for school staff during in-service delivery.


• Take responsibility for a whole class during the temporary absence of a teacher and manage challenging students away from the classroom as a respite strategy.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience in working with students with emotional and behavioural difficulties.


• Ability to engage students creatively and passionately across various subjects.


• Strong rapport-building skills with students, families, and carers.


• Ability to liaise effectively with various agencies to solve student issues.


• Experience in delivering SEN interventions and managing classroom activities.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
