Fees
Fees are paid per appointment, rather than per day, and start from £150 per appointment plus expenses. Rates vary depending on the type and scope of work required and will be agreed in advance.
The Role
We are looking for a qualified and experienced self\-employed Health \& Safety Advisor to support our growing Health \& Safety team for approximately 1–3 days per week.
The role will involve providing practical health and safety advice and support to our agricultural and commercial clients, helping them understand their responsibilities, manage workplace risks and meet relevant legal requirements.
You will work directly with clients, carrying out site visits, identifying risks and providing clear, practical recommendations and documentation tailored to each individual business.
The role offers flexibility, although travel to client sites across England and Wales will be required, which may occasionally involve overnight stays, along with periodic visits to our Herefordshire office.
Key Responsibilities
- Carrying out health and safety audits and site visits.
- Preparing and reviewing health and safety policies, risk assessments and supporting documentation.
- Identifying workplace hazards and providing practical recommendations to manage risk.
- Advising clients on health and safety legislation and their legal responsibilities.
- Producing clear and accurate client reports and action plans.
- Delivering Toolbox Talks and other workplace safety briefings.
- Supporting clients following accidents, incidents or HSE involvement.
- Liaising with clients and colleagues to ensure advice and documentation reflect the individual needs of each business.
Essential
- Relevant practical experience in a health and safety advisory or consultancy role.
- Strong knowledge of current health and safety legislation and best practice.
- Ability to provide practical and proportionate advice to clients.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong report\-writing skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
- Good IT skills.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites.
We would particularly welcome applicants who hold some or all of the following:
- A postgraduate qualification or master’s degree in health and safety.
- A NEBOSH Level 3 Occupational health and safety qualification, or equivalent.
- A Level 3 qualification in Fire Risk Assessment.
- ISO 45001 Lead Auditor qualification.
- Experience supporting clients across a range of business sectors.
- Previous experience working as a Health \& Safety Advisor, Consultant or H\&S Officer
- Experience carrying out Health \& Safety audits
- Experience completing and reviewing Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
- Experience investigating accidents and incidents, including an understanding of RIDDOR
- Flexible self\-employed work for approximately 1–3 days per week.
