Secondary School Teaching Assistant (Part\-Time)
Hours of Work: Up to 27\.5 hours per week
Monday to Friday: 8:45am – 3:15pm
(Includes a 1\-hour unpaid lunch break)
Reports To: SENDCo, Head of Year, or Designated Teacher
Purpose of the Role
To support students, teachers, and the wider school community in promoting high standards of learning, behaviour, and wellbeing. The Teaching Assistant will work closely with teaching staff to help students access the curriculum, participate fully in school life, and achieve their individual learning goals.
Key ResponsibilitiesStudent Support
- Provide in\-class support to individual students and small groups.
- Assist students with learning activities as directed by teaching staff.
- Support students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), where required.
- Encourage student engagement, independence, confidence, and positive behaviour.
- Promote inclusion and equal opportunities for all students.
- Assist teachers in preparing learning materials and classroom resources.
- Support the delivery of lessons under the guidance of teaching staff.
- Help maintain an organised, safe, and stimulating learning environment.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers.
- Assist with classroom management and behaviour support strategies.
- Build positive and professional relationships with students.
- Support students' emotional wellbeing and personal development.
- Supervise students during break, lunchtime, transitions, and school activities as required.
- Promote safeguarding and student welfare at all times.
- Assist with record keeping and documentation as directed.
- Support the organisation of educational visits, events, and activities.
- Attend relevant meetings and training sessions.
- Undertake photocopying, filing, and other administrative tasks related to the role.
- Adhere to all school safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, and data protection policies.
- Report any safeguarding concerns promptly in accordance with school procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Good standard of education, including GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
- Experience working with young people in an educational, youth work, or similar setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Positive, patient, and supportive approach to working with students.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant educational support qualification.
- Experience supporting students with SEND.
- Knowledge of behaviour management strategies.
- First Aid qualification.
- Part\-time position of up to 27\.5 hours per week.
- Working pattern: Monday to Friday, 8:45am – 3:15pm, with a 1\-hour unpaid lunch break.
- Appointment subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check.
Pay: £16\.73\-£18\.00 per hour
