How many maths schemes of work have you rewritten because they simply weren't designed for the students sitting in front of you? If you're the teacher finding creative ways to engage learners who have struggled in education, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

About the School

This specialist SEMH school in Esher supports secondary-aged pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs. Many students have experienced disrupted education, high levels of anxiety and barriers to learning that have impacted both confidence and attainment.

With small class sizes, strong pastoral support and a therapeutic approach, the school focuses on helping young people re-engage with education, develop resilience and achieve positive outcomes.

Candidates commonly travel from Kingston, Surbiton, Walton-on-Thames, Weybridge, Cobham, Chessington, Leatherhead and Epsom.

Your Role

  • Plan and deliver engaging maths lessons tailored to students with SEMH needs.

  • Adapt learning for students working at a range of academic levels.

  • Build confidence, resilience and positive attitudes towards learning.

  • Prepare students for GCSE Maths and other appropriate qualifications.

  • Work closely with support staff and wider professionals to support EHCP outcomes.

  • Create a safe, structured and engaging learning environment.

  • Support students to achieve both academic and personal success.

What You'll Bring
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • Experience teaching Maths at secondary level.

  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.

  • Understanding of SEMH, SEND or alternative provision settings.

  • Ability to differentiate learning and remove barriers to progress.

  • A resilient, patient and nurturing approach.

  • Commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable young people.

Mainstream Maths Teachers seeking a move into specialist education are encouraged to apply.

Why This Role?

Teaching maths in an SEMH setting is about far more than delivering a curriculum. It's about helping young people rebuild confidence in themselves and discover they are capable of more than they thought possible.

You'll benefit from small class sizes, excellent support from colleagues, ongoing professional development and the opportunity to make a genuine difference every day.
