About the Opportunity:

The Energy and Environment International Sector is a growing sector and to meet this we are looking to recruit for a Safety Engineers with extensive experience in the development of safety justification to join our Defence \& Security business. Candidates with similar safety case experience within high hazard industries and, or significant nuclear defence industry experience will be considered, where this compliments the existing team.

The Defence \& Security business provides an exciting mixture of consultancy, design and engineering support, along with delivery of challenging Defence projects, to major clients in the UK at a variety of Sites across the nuclear and defence industries. Taking a lead role in the development of the appropriate and proportionate safety case including Naval Nuclear, Civil Nuclear, Marine Infrastructure, OME regulated by DNSR, ONR and HSE. This supports the full project lifecycle from Concept, through design to decommissioning.

Essential skills and experience:

• Preparing, implementing, and delivering Safety Case documentation for nuclear operations and plant areas, ensuring standards of safety, cost, quality, and schedule are met


• Presenting safety case documents to safety committees, regulators, and licensees on behalf of senior management, ensuring compliance with legislative, regulatory, and company policies related to nuclear safety


• Maintaining safety case systems, and developing procedures and processes for management and review of safety standards


• Conducting short\- and long\-term reviews of safety cases, advising on nuclear safety performance, and developing dashboards for performance tracking


• Capable of team leadership, project management, and continuous improvement initiatives in a regulated nuclear environment

• Leading improvement initiatives, integrating lessons learned from internal and external sources, events, and best practices


• Leading the development and assurance of nuclear safety across complex naval infrastructure, including submarines and weapons programmes


• Providing expert advice on probabilistic safety assessments (PSA), design safety, and operational safety cases.


• Overseeing safety case implementation, auditing for compliance, and supporting risk management activities across fleets and facilities

• A STEM background is essential, Degree qualified, Chartered (desirable)


• Completion of specific nuclear safety or Safety Case Manager (SCM) workbooks and able to obtain a security clearance.


• Strong understanding of safety case principles, methodologies, and regulatory frameworks, including DBA (Design Basis Accident) and PSA approaches .


• Experience in operating within validated risk assessment arrangements and managing nuclear operation.


• Production of safety documentation, including Periodic Safety Review (PSR) outputs, Facility Safety Cases (FSC), and Post\-Accident Condition Safety Reports (PACSR)


• Conducting periodic safety case reviews, implementing safety processes for operational changes, and integrating safety strategies into procedures and audits.


• Experience leading safety case development for civil or naval nuclear installations is highly valued.
