Contract Type: Full Time, permanent contract
Shift Schedule: 40 hours per week between 9am and 6pm, working 5/7 days
Salary: £28,500 per annum

We are looking for an enthusiastic and commercially focused Retail Manager to join the team at Deep Sea World, Scotland’s National Aquarium.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced retail professional to take ownership of our gift shop operation, driving sales and commercial performance, while creating an engaging and memorable experience for our visitors.
About the role
As Retail Manager, you will be responsible for the day\-to\-day management of the gift shop, leading and developing the retail team and ensuring the shop delivers excellent customer service, strong commercial results, and a high standard of presentation.
You will have the opportunity to put your creativity into practice, through engaging merchandising and displays that bring the Deep Sea World experience to life, while using sales information, visitor feedback and retail trends to maximise sales opportunities.
You will also play an important role within the wider attraction as Duty Manager on a rotational basis, taking responsibility for the safe and effective operation of the attraction and helping to ensure every visitor enjoys a positive experience from arrival to departure.

- Lead the day\-to\-day operation of the retail shop, setting and communicating sales targets and monitoring performance against budget and key KPI’s
- Lead, motivate and develop the retail team through effective recruitment, induction, training, coaching and communication.
- Create an engaging retail environment through creative merchandising, attractive displays and excellent product presentation.
- Analyse sales and stock performance to identify opportunities to increase revenue, average transaction value and overall commercial performance.
- Develop and maintain an appropriate product range by understanding visitor needs, retail trends and customer feedback.
- Manage stock effectively, including deliveries, stocktakes, stock levels, stockroom organisation, and minimising wastage and shrinkage.
- Ensure promotions are delivered accurately and effectively.
- Manage EPOS/till systems, cash handling, daily reconciliation and retail records.
- Ensure the shop is fully prepared for opening and securely closed at the end of each trading day.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, security and presentation across the retail operation.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for someone who combines strong retail management experience with a genuine passion for customer service.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience in a retail management within a visitor attraction or a fast\-paced hospitality setting
- A strong understanding of retail KPI’s, including driving spend\-per\-head (SPH), average transaction value (ATV), and managing budgets.
- Demonstrate experience acting as a Duty Manager or Keyholder, with direct responsibility for site security, health \& safety, and incident resolution.
- Experience with stock control management, supplier negotiation and operating EPOS and ticketing systems.
- Ability to manage, rota, and inspire a diverse team of staff to deliver excellent customer service and hit sales targets.
- Strong problem\-solving abilities, with a calm, decisive approach when handling visitor complaints or operational emergencies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to liaise confidently with visitors, contractors and internal departments.
- Competent in cash handling, daily reconciliation, safe procedures, and analysing sales data.
- Ability to work a flexible rota that regularly includes weekends, bank holidays, and occasional evening events to support the attractions opening hours.
