Respite Carer
Respite Carer Required – Barnsley (Wilthorpe Area)
I am looking for a patient, caring and reliable individual to provide respite care for my son, Dylan, a 6\-year\-old boy with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Global Developmental Delay.
The role will involve caring for Dylan at your home and taking him on outings such as visits to the park, farm or soft play. Any activity costs will be covered. Dylan has a disability pushchair for outings. Due to Dylan becoming distressed by visitors in our home, care cannot take place at our address.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing personal care (nappy changes, hand washing, dressing/undressing)
- Preparing meals and snacks
- Supervising Dylan closely and ensuring his safety at all times
- Redirecting challenging or unsafe behaviours
- Engaging in play and activities
- Understanding and responding to his communication needs
Dylan is a fun\-loving and energetic boy who enjoys spending time at farms, parks and soft play centres, and has a particular fascination with lions, water, lights, and The Lion King. Dylan especially enjoys games involving movement, anticipation and chasing. He has limited communication skills, is non\-verbal, and requires a high level of supervision due to having no awareness of danger. He is a flight risk and can require physical assistance, so applicants should be physically capable of lifting and carrying him when necessary (he weighs 25kg).
Essential qualities:
