The UCL Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodology brings together five expert research units: UCL Innovative Clinical Trials Unit (InCTU, formerly MRC Clinical Trials Unit at UCL), the Comprehensive Clinical Trials Unit at UCL, Cancer Research UK/UCL Cancer Trials Centre, the PRIMENT CTU and the MRC Centre of Research Excellence in Clinical Trial Innovation (CCTI).
Across the Institute we design and deliver high\-quality clinical trials, meta\-analysis and epidemiological studies, across a range of diseases, that inform clinical practice globally. We are committed to improving local, national and global health. Key areas of focus are continuing to deliver innovations in trial methodology to improve outcomes for patients, and training and developing the next generation of trialists. We work with academic collaborators in more than 60 countries worldwide and a significant number of commercial partners.
InCTU leads research addressing internationally important questions, primarily in infectious diseases, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. A key goal is to deliver swifter and more effective translation of scientific research into patient and public health benefits. We achieve this by carrying out challenging and innovative studies. We work closely with MRC CCTI to develop and implement methodological advances in study design, conduct and analysis. InCTU is a UKCRC registered trials unit.
About the role
------------------
We are seeking a statistician to join our friendly, collaborative team working on trials in infectious diseases in pregnancy and children. The post offers opportunities at either Grade 6B or Grade 7 to contribute to ongoing trials, and to lead secondary analyses, including co\-authoring publications using data from recently completed trials. At either grade, you would have support from senior statisticians. An appointment at grade 7 would be expected to work more independently to organise and manage their own workload.
Initial opportunities will include working on paediatric HIV treatment trials including the D3/Penta 21 trial, which compares two drug therapy with standard three drug therapy, the BREATHER Plus trial which evaluated weekends off HIV treatment, and the LATA trial, which evaluated injectable HIV treatment.
You will join a wider community of junior and senior statisticians within InCTU, with excellent opportunities for skills development and career progression, both in statistics and in broader research roles.
This vacancy is for one position at Grade 6B or Grade 7\.

About you
-------------
Applicants should have a post\-graduate qualification in statistics, coupled with a thorough understanding of statistical concepts and practical experience of using statistical methods for analysis. The post requires strong programming skills and the ability to write code independently in at least one of Stata or R. You should be keen to develop your applied statistical methodology skills and to learn about new disease areas. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.
The post may suit someone recently or about to complete an MSc or PhD .
