Research assitant \- tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, biofabrication
IMDEA Materials Institute is a public research organization founded in 2007 by Madrid’s regional government to carry out research of excellence in Material Science and Engineering by attracting talent from all over the world to work in an international and multidisciplinary environment. IMDEA Materials has grown rapidly since its foundation and currently includes more than 120 researchers from 22 nationalities and has become one of the leading research centers in materials in Europe which has received the María de Maeztu seal of excellence from the Spanish government. The research activities have been focused on the areas of materials for transport, energy, and health care and the Institute has state\-of\-the\-art facilities for processing, characterization and simulation of advanced materials.
Description
The position is embedded within the Tissue Engineering and Biomedical Materials (TEBM) group at IMDEA Materials Institute and focuses on the development of advanced biomaterials and fabrication strategies for regenerative medicine applications. In particular, the project explores scaffold fabrication approaches based on extracellular matrix (ECM) and collagen materials, with special interest in controlling ice crystal growth during processing to tailor scaffold architecture and functionality.
The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing research combining biomaterials fabrication, experimental characterization, and computational modelling/simulations related to ice crystal formation and scaffold microstructure development. The work will involve supporting the optimization of freeze\-casting and related fabrication techniques for biomimetic scaffolds used in tissue engineering applications.
We are looking for a candidate with a background in biomaterials, bioengineering, materials science, biotechnology, physics, or related disciplines, with interest in computational simulations and regenerative medicine.
Responsibilities
- Support current research lines from TEBM group
- Support scaffold fabrication using ECM and collagen\-based biomaterials
- Assist in simulations and modelling of ice crystal growth during scaffold fabrication
- Contribute to physicochemical and structural characterization of biomaterials and scaffolds
- Assist with biological evaluation and cell culture experiments when needed
- Record, analyze, and present experimental data
