Post Summary
HRB\-CTN Dementia Trials Ireland (www.dementiatrials.ie) is an Irish research network, based within Trinity College Dublin and St James’s Hospital, Dublin. This role is hybrid and will require attendance at both St James’s Hospital and remote working.
The specific aims of the Dementia Trials Ireland Clinical Trial Network (DTI CTN) are:

  • Aim 1: to facilitate and support academic investigators from within and outside Ireland in conducting dementia trials, to establish and augment partnerships with industry to increase dementia trial conduct in Ireland;

  • Aim 2: to increase the numbers of patients, family members and members of the public participating in dementia trials;

  • Aim 3: to include patients, their families and members of the public in the design and conduct of dementia trials;

  • Aim 4: to educate and train researchers and investigators in dementia trial conduct to include incorporating methodological approaches to optimise recruitment, retention, and relevance of research outcomes to patient priorities.
These aims are aligned with those of the Network’s funders, the Health Research Board, to make sure that patients’ voices are at the centre of our work.

DTI studies use imaging, biomarkers, and neuropsychological methods to assess healthy volunteers and people diagnosed with dementia. The post holder will lead an industry\-funded Phase II clinical trial in Alzheimer’s disease by recruiting participants, obtaining consent, scheduling procedures, engaging in data acquisition (neuropsychological testing, outcome rating, data entry), documenting procedures, maintaining communication, answering questions, and troubleshooting. Additional trial duties will be overseen by the DTI Network Manager.

In this role, the post holder will interface with the DTI network lead, network management/ trial coordination team, the clinical team at St James’s Hospital’s Memory Clinic in Dublin, and members of the Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at St James’s Hospital, who support DTI trials.

The post holder will also provide assistance with other dementia studies as needed. They will be part of a multidisciplinary research team, based at St James’s. The team researches interventions for Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Lewy Body Dementia (LBD), and other forms of dementia, as part of an HRB\-funded clinical trial network Dementia Trials Ireland (DTI). The current study portfolio is a combination of investigator\-led and industry\-sponsored
Studies.
