Main duties, tasks \& skills required
To provide and maintain a high standard of evidence based, patient centred care. To demonstrate good interpersonal skills and to develop practical skills required within the speciality, whist reflecting the philosophy of care.
To deliver patient care on a daily basis, using the systems in place in the department for a multi\-disciplinary approach to patient\-centred care delivery, which builds on the philosophy of greater involvement of patients and their relatives/carers by using the Trusts patient and public involvement strategy.
Experienced Band 5 post holders will also provide effective clinical and managerial leadership of the department, in the absence of the senior members of the team, which empowers staff to deliver patient\- centred, evidence based nursing care

Job description
To provide and delegate care for patients within the inpatient ward.
To be responsible for own personal safety and have knowledge of Trust policy regarding safeguarding of patients and staff.
To be aware of budget implications and manage resources effectively.
To manage own time effectively, demonstrating flexibility to meet service requirements over the 24\-hour working period.
The post holder will act as a Team Leader for a team of approximately five members of nursing staff on a daily basis. In the absence of a more senior nurse or Matron the Band 5 nurse will need to take charge of the hospital on a Rota basis covering unsocial hours such as evening's weekends and bank holidays, this will increase the number of staff that the Band 5 nurse will oversee. There could be unforeseen emergencies situations that arise which the Band 5 nurse would need to lead.
The Band 5 Nurse will lead a team of nurses to care for a number of patients and will hold responsibility for ensuring that the patient care needs are met.
To initiate the appraisal process with junior staff nurses and HealthCare Assistants to continue the evaluation process \& education needs of staff development as directed by the Ward Manager.
To contribute to Staff induction program and the continuing education of preceptorship and newly qualified staff /new Trust staff / student nurses/ cadet Nurses and work experience students. To promote an informative educational environment this will aid effective communication between the two parties.
