REGISTERED MANAGER — CHILDREN'S HOME

Roots and Wings \| Castle Gresley, South Derbyshire (DE11\)

Full\-time, Permanent \| £48,000 – £55,000 dependent on experience

ABOUT US

Roots and Wings is a brand new, independent children's residential home based in Castle Gresley, South Derbyshire. We are currently in the final stages of planning approval and preparing our Ofsted SC1 registration application. We provide a safe, nurturing, and stable home for up to four children and young people aged 7 to 17 — a genuine home, not just a placement.

At the heart of everything we do is a belief in long\-term, consistent care. We want the children who come to us to stay, to settle, to belong. To go to the same school for years, to know the same faces, to grow up in a place that feels like theirs. Too many children in the care system are moved repeatedly — we exist to be the opposite of that.

Our name reflects everything we believe in — giving children the stability and security of roots, alongside the confidence and freedom of wings.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a rare chance to lead a children's home from the very beginning — one built on a belief in long\-term, stable, family\-feel care. You will shape its culture, build its team, and create a place where children genuinely belong.

We welcome applications from two groups of candidates:

For experienced Registered Managers — bring your expertise to a blank canvas. Step away from the constraints of an established service and lead a home where your decisions genuinely shape outcomes from day one.

For senior Deputies ready to step up — if you are ready to make the move to Registered Manager, this is an ideal first role. You will have the full support of a committed provider, a strong policy framework already in place, and a provider who believes in your potential.

THE ROLE — WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

\- Leading Roots and Wings through the Ofsted registration process and achieving a strong first inspection outcome

\- Creating a genuine home environment where children feel settled, safe and truly belonging — not just placed

\- Recruiting, developing and leading a high\-quality staff team who share our belief in long\-term, consistent care

\- Ensuring the home operates in full compliance with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards

\- Making thoughtful, child\-centred admissions decisions that protect the stability of existing children in the home

\- Building strong, trusting relationships with the children and young people in our care — and maintaining them over years, not months

\- Working collaboratively with placing authorities, schools, health services and families

\- Leading safeguarding practice and creating a culture where every child feels safe, seen and supported

\- Producing high\-quality care plans, risk assessments and reports to the standard Ofsted expects

\- Working closely with the Responsible Individual to ensure strong governance and continuous improvement

\-\-\-

THE PERSON — WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

\- At least 2 years' experience in children's residential care, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role

\- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care (Children and Young People's Residential Management), or actively enrolled and working towards it

\- A thorough working knowledge of the Children's Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards and the Ofsted SCCIF

\- Experience of, or readiness to lead, an Ofsted inspection — and the confidence to represent the home in a fit person interview

\- A warm, consistent approach to working with children and young people, with a genuine belief in long\-term, stable care

\- Strong written and verbal communication skills — care planning, report writing and stakeholder engagement

\- Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to undergo one)

\-\-\-

WHAT WE OFFER

\- Salary of £48,000 – £55,000 dependent on experience

\- Genuine autonomy to shape the home's culture, team, and practice from the very start

\- A clear, values\-driven ethos — long\-term, stable, family\-feel care — that you can be proud to lead

\- Full support through the Ofsted registration process, including access to a specialist consultant

\- A comprehensive policies and procedures framework already in place

\- Annual leave and pension

\- A commitment to your continued professional development

\- A provider who is present, supportive, and genuinely invested in doing this well
