Introduction
The Cotswolds Dogs \& Cats Home opened in September 2016 and since then, we have supported more than 6000 animals through our Rehoming and Welfare Services. As a leading animal rescue charity in Gloucestershire, we care for hundreds of abandoned, abused and neglected animals each year and find them loving and safe new families. We also provide low cost veterinary schemes to families and their pets to ensure that no animal goes without veterinary treatment due to financial restrictions.

Key Objectives \& Responsibilities
The Receptionist is a key member of the Operations Team, which delivers high standards of animal welfare and care throughout each animal’s journey from admission and assessment to rehoming. The post\-holder will provide a professional, welcoming and efficient reception service while supporting the smooth day\-to\-day running of the centre.
This is a zero\-hours position requiring a flexible approach to working hours. The post\-holder must be able to provide cover for staff sickness and annual leave, which may sometimes be requested at short notice.
Reception and centre support
- Follow all CDCH policies and procedures, particularly those relating to health and safety and data protection.
- Maintain a clean, tidy and welcoming reception area throughout the day, including sweeping, mopping and securing the area at closing when required.
- Provide a professional and friendly service to customers and visitors in person, by telephone and by email, ensuring that information about rehoming and other CDCH services is accurate and up to date.
- Respond to public enquiries, provide information about the charity’s animals and services, and signpost to other appropriate organisations when needed.
- Provide advice, information and guidance within agreed parameters.
- Support and assist centre volunteers.
- Travel off site for training and to transfer animals when required
- Assist with centre publicity, education events and fundraising activities.
- Set up till and computer systems at the beginning of the day and complete cashing\-up procedures at the end of the day.
- Empty donation bins and transfer and sort donated blankets, food and other items in the appropriate storage areas.
- Greet customers and accept and unload deliveries.
- Liaise professionally with the RSPCA Inspectorate, volunteers, members of the public and external colleagues.
- Display, sell and restock centre shop items.
- Undertake general office and administrative duties.
- Provide holiday and sickness cover for colleagues as required, including at short notice where possible
We are seeking Animal Care Assistants who can deliver operational excellence. You will have absolute dedication to the welfare of animals.
Essential
Significant experience of working in a demanding customer service environment.
- Ability to handle emotive situations with tact, diplomacy and empathy.
- Proven experience of cash handling and banking procedures.
- Ability to identify issues and develop effective solutions.
- Proven experience of using databases and maintaining accurate records.
- Experience of delivering high\-quality work with minimal supervision.
- A flexible approach to managing and prioritising a varied workload and multiple tasks.
- Proven ability to work constructively and collaboratively with colleagues across different teams.
- Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication style for different audiences.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Good IT skills, including experience of Microsoft Office and other systems relevant to the role.
- Understanding of and commitment to the vision, mission and values of CDCH.
- A full UK driving licence.
·Experience of working within an animal rescue or animal welfare environment.
