Railway On Track Machine Driver / Operator

We are seeking to hire a Driver Operator / Maintainer to join our Operations Team working on the On Track Machines (OTMs) across the rail network.

The successful hire(s) will drive and operate the OTMs as well as perform maintenance tasks during shifts, should those tasks be required. No prior experience in the rail industry is required as full training in how to drive and operate on the rail network will be provided.

Much of the work is carried out at weekends and nights and some working away from home will be required (company will facilitate with hotels etc).

A job offer to the successful candidate(s) is dependent on passing relevant Railway Standard Medicals and passing the required Psychometric Test and aptitude testing. Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for unsupervised safe movement of OTMs on the Irish Rail network in accordance with the Irish rules and regulations

  • Operate OTMs (tampers, ballast cleaners etc) in accordance with Railway Standards

  • Responsible for the front line maintenance of machines as well as faults and failures

  • Carry out certain aspects of maintenance and safety checks and assist specialist Fitter staff when fixing a machine breakdown or problem.

  • Complete the required operator and maintenance duties as per the vehicle maintenance instructions and operator manuals

  • Maintain clear and open communications, verbal and written, with Control Room /Help Desk

  • Work to a safe and competent standard

  • Carry out emergency procedures as and when required

  • Be vigilant in observing all signals applicable to train and machine movements and immediately report any irregularities to the signalman concerned

  • Maintain route knowledge and adhere to any new standards and training
What you'll need to Succeed

Qualification Requirements:

  • A minimum of 9 years of education (up to Leaving Cert level)

  • In possession of a Full and Valid road vehicle driving license to be able to drive company vehicles
Desirable experience, skills and qualifications
  • Good knowledge of computer and phone skills, Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook

  • Flexible, honest, and punctual

  • Good Communication Skills a necessity

  • Willing to continue learning and undertake career\-long training

  • Maintain a positive attitude and sense of professional pride

  • Able to perform weekend and night shift duties

  • Experience in working on diesel, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic plant

  • Holding a recognised completed or part completed apprenticeship in either a Mechanical or Electrical discipline (Construction Plant Fitting preferable) would be an advantage

Total Compensation:

Trainees start on €40K and after 9 months training work up to c.€65k per annum
