Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) is a model 4, voluntary, academic teaching hospital partnered with Trinity College and situated in south west Dublin. With a staff of over 4,000 people from 63 different countries, it provides both acute and tertiary care to an increasing population of circa 800,000 people and is a provider of local, regional and national specialties. It is also a National Urology Centre, the second largest provider of dialysis services in the country, Pelvic and Acetabulum National Centre and a designated Trauma Unit.

purpose of the role:

The Radiography Dept Aide (RDA) will work effectively as part of the Radiology team dedicated to delivering a high quality efficient Radiology service to patient whilst demonstrating a professional caring and responsible approach to duties carried out.

In this role The RDA work alongside the Radiographers, Radiologists and radiology clerical colleagues providing direct care and assistance to patients attending TUH Radiology.

Key Duties and Responsibilities* The successful candidate will be part of a team dedicated to the delivery of high quality service and must demonstrate a caring and responsible approach to duties carried out

  • Participate in staff rotation within the department and duties throughout the TUH Radiology Campus, in the main Radiology dept, the ED and the Primary Care Radiology unit.

  • Be committed to assuring high standards and strive for a user centered service

  • Monitor and adhere to relevant legislation, regulations and standards relevant to the use of ionising radiation

  • Comply with local radiation safety rules

  • Participate in mandatory training programmes

  • Demonstrate good professional and technical standards

  • To report any equipment defects or problems to the Radiographer in the area where working or directly to the RSM

  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate with colleagues, families, carers etc.

  • Maintain confidentiality of information about patients, staff and other Hospital business

  • To take responsibility for the general cleanliness, tidiness and safety of the Department, with specific responsibility for their own work area. To familiarise themselves with current infection control procedures

  • Participate in audit programmes and in the implementation of findings

  • Any other duties assigned by the Radiology Management team
Patient Care* Assist with the transport and transfer of patients.
  • Assist with the preparation of patients for imaging procedures.

  • Assist and monitor patients while they are taking preparations for examinations.

  • Assistant patient in completing pre imaing paperwork/questionnaires.

  • Assist with moving and positioning of patients when necessary.

  • Help and support patients prior to and after examinations.

  • Assist with confused or agitated patients while in the department.
General Duties
  • Participate in rosters within the department as required.

  • Assist in any area within the department as required.

  • Collect ambulant patient and pts that can be collected by Wheelchair when working in the ED Xray and CT scanner.

  • In rostered areas answer telephones when necessary and locate appropriate personnel using telephone inter\-com system.

  • Clean and help maintain image processing and diagnostic equipment.

  • Ensure duties in Dirty Utility/Sluice room are carried out as required.

  • Change linen on x\-ray tables, couches and trolleys.

  • Ensure rooms are adequately stocked daily.

  • Ensure changing cubicles are clean and tidy prior to use.

  • Change cubicle curtains as requested.

  • Ensure the correct laundry bags are used and the correct use of alginate bags

  • Assist with the disposal of clinical waste

  • Attend to spillages immediately to reduce the risk of accident.

  • Check hoist and change battery as required.

  • Report faults/broken items in the dept to radiographers/RSM.

  • Assist with the cleaning and transfer of equipment and accessories within the department.

  • Be familiar and comply with the Hospital policies in relation to Patients Charter, Health and Safety, Fire, Major Disaster, Infection control, Smoking, and Waste Disposal including disposal of soiled linen.

  • Observe department policies and procedures.

  • Read and observe local rules.

  • Assist with issues relating to day to day department operation such as Materials Management, Pharmacy, Catering or Laboratory.

  • Report all incidents involving self, patients or visitors to Radiography Services Manager or deputy.

  • Assist with emergency first aid as directed.

  • Help patients to complete MRI safety questionnaires in advance of MRI scan.

  • Ensure patients are changed into gowns where appropriate jewellery etc is removed

  • Scan documents onto NIMIS where required
Qualifications \& Experience required

Must have:* Have been educated to Leaving Certificate standard.

or* Have passed an examination of comparable standard at second level

or* A relevant Certificate in healthcare support at FETAC Level 5

and* A minimum of one year’s relevant patient care experience in a hospital setting

and* Aptitude for computing is essential

Desirable:* Previous experience working in a Radiology Dept

  • Previous experience working with NIMIS platform
Reward \& Recognition* Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales, grade code 3093\.
  • The appointment is a Temporary specified purpose, full time and pensionable role.

  • The annual leave entitlement is 23 working days per year. The leave year runs from 1st April to the 31st of March each year.

  • Normal working hours are 37 hrs worked over 5 days. Your contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8 am to 8 pm over 7 days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement.
