Full\-time, Permanent

About Us

Gratton Construction is a leading East Midlands contractor specialising in refurbishment and maintenance projects in the social housing sector. We work closely with local authorities and registered providers to deliver quality homes for communities.

As a growing business, we are committed to investing in our people and creating opportunities for progression as our team expands.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Quantity Surveyor to join our team. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will take ownership of the financial and commercial management of refurbishment projects — primarily voids and planned works, with some responsive repair projects.

This is a varied role where you’ll be pricing jobs, managing subcontractor procurement, overseeing variations, and producing delivery models for internal teams. You’ll work closely with our Operations team and be supported by a Commercial Assistant for admin tasks such as invoicing, purchase orders, and CVRs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pricing jobs using archetypes and schedules of rates.

  • Producing delivery models for internal teams and pricing scopes for contractors.

  • Managing variations to ensure they are captured, costed, and agreed.

  • Preparing client and subcontractor final accounts.

  • Reviewing project P\&L and identifying improvements with the Ops team.

  • Procurement and subcontractor management.

  • Commercial reporting directly to the Managing Director.

  • Supporting RICS accreditation (if not already achieved).
What We’re Looking For
  • Proven QS experience in social housing refurbishment (voids, kitchens, bathrooms, wet rooms, planned works).

  • Strong commercial acumen and experience with SoRs, procurement, CVRs, and financial reporting.

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

  • RICS accredited (preferred) or working towards — with full support provided.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with Ops, clients, and contractors.
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary: £40,000 – £50,000 DOE

  • Car allowance

  • Private company healthcare

  • 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays)

  • Paid sick leave (after 1 year, increasing with service)

  • RICS accreditation support \& professional development

  • Career progression – opportunity to develop and lead a commercial team as the business grows

  • Varied workload – primarily voids and planned works, with site visits and responsive jobs to add variety to your week

  • A supportive, collaborative team culture
Why Join Us?

This role gives you the chance to make a real difference in the quality of social housing across the East Midlands. Your work will directly contribute to improving living conditions for local communities, while building a career within a growing and ambitious business.
