Quality Control Engineer - AWL Robot Line

Job Summary

The Quality Control Engineer is the lead QC presence on the AWL robot line, responsible for ensuring every pipe produced meets contract, drawing and company SOP requirements before it leaves the line. The role owns the daily and weekly capture and recording of defects, reports findings to management, and drives corrective actions through to closure to permanently remove recurring defects from the process.

Daily Roles \& Responsibilities

As lead QC for the AWL robot line, daily duties include:

• Checking pipe lengths against contract and drawing specification


• Checking Victaulic groove landing lengths


• Checking Victaulic groove depths


• Checking weld quality


• Checking centres between welds


• Checking welds are level


• Checking internal holes for welds


• Checking off finished pipes against the contract before release


• Working to the company's set Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at all times, and flagging any gaps or inconsistencies found in them

Defect Recording \& Reporting

• Recording all defects identified during daily and weekly shifts, accurately and consistently


• Reporting defect findings to management on a daily and weekly basis


• Identifying trends and root causes behind recurring defects


• Driving actions with production, engineering and supervision to remove defects at source


• Following up on agreed actions to confirm they have closed out and the defect has not recurred


• Maintaining clear, auditable inspection records to support contract sign\-off and traceability

Person Specification

Essential:

• Welding QC experience – able to assess weld quality against standard and SOP


• A proactive individual who takes ownership of the line's quality standard without needing to be chased


• Comfortable working to, and holding others to, a defined SOP


• Strong attention to detail across dimensional and visual inspection


• Confident recording data clearly and reporting it to management in a way that drives action


• Able to communicate findings assertively to production and supervision to get defects resolved

Desirable:

• Recognised welding inspection qualification (e.g. CSWIP or equivalent)


• Experience working QC on a robotic/automated welding or fabrication line


• Familiarity with Victaulic\-grooved pipe systems

Key Interfaces

• AWL Line Supervisor – day\-to\-day defect resolution and line performance


• Quality Manager – reporting, SOP ownership and escalation


• Production \& Engineering – corrective action ownership


• Senior Management – daily/weekly defect reporting

What Success Looks Like

• Zero non\-conforming pipes released against contract


• Consistent, on\-time daily and weekly defect reporting to management


• A visible, sustained downward trend in recurring defect types on the AWL line


• SOPs on the AWL line are followed, current, and gaps are flagged and closed
