We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Senior Support Worker to join our children's home team. In this vital role, you will lead and supervise a team of support workers on shift, ensuring that children and young people receive exceptional care in a safe, nurturing environment. Duties
- Act as shift leader, supervising and supporting a team of support workers to ensure high standards of care and professionalism at all times.
- Take key\-worker responsibility for named children, leading the development, implementation, and review of individualised care plans.
- Promote positive behaviour\-support strategies rooted in trauma\-informed and therapeutic parenting practice, ensuring consistent application across the team.
- Oversee daily routines, education, appointments, activities, and therapeutic interventions to support children's emotional and social development.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including incident reports, care records, and progress notes, using the home's IT/care\-management systems.simplyhired.co
- Foster effective communication with children, families, social workers, and external professionals to ensure coordinated, consistent care.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies, health and safety regulations, and Ofsted Quality Standards within the home.
- Support the Deputy and Registered Manager with staff induction, on\-shift mentoring, and covering shifts in their absence
- Safely transport children and young people to school, appointments, and activities as required.
- Minimum 2 years' experience within a children's residential setting, including experience in a senior or supervisory capacity.
- NVQ/QCF Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (essential, or working towards completion within 2 years, in line with Ofsted requirements).
- Strong leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse shift team.
- Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with children, families, colleagues, and external agencies.
- Sound understanding of safeguarding, child development, and trauma\-informed or PACE\-based therapeutic care.
- Full, valid UK driving licence required, with ability to transport children safely.
- Proficiency in IT systems for record keeping, reporting, and communication.
- Ability to work a shift pattern including earlies, lates, weekends, and sleep\-ins.
- Minimum age 21 or 22 (per regulatory/insurance requirements for driving and lone responsibility).
- Enhanced DBS check, ideally registered with the Update Service.
Shift pattern: includes days, evenings, weekends, and sleep\-ins on a rolling rota, averaging around 37–40 hours per week. We are committed to your ongoing training and development, including full funding and support towards your Level 3 (and eventually Level 5\) qualifications.
Pay: £35,420\.00\-£45,150\.29 per year
