Qualified Learning Support Assistant - Secondary SEMH Outreach (Eccles) Location: Eccles, Greater Manchester
Pay: £110-£120 per day (depending on experience)
Job Type: Temporary to Long-Term
Start Date: September 2026

Are you a qualified Learning Support Assistant with a passion for helping young people overcome barriers to education? Do you have experience supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour?

We are looking for a dedicated, resilient, and compassionate Qualified Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist secondary SEMH outreach provision in the Eccles area. This is a rewarding role supporting young people both in educational settings and within the community, helping them to re-engage with learning and achieve positive outcomes.

The Role As a Qualified Learning Support Assistant, you will:

  • Support secondary-aged pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.

  • Deliver outreach support to students in a variety of settings, including schools and community locations.

  • Build positive, professional relationships with pupils to encourage engagement, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.

  • Support the delivery of personalised learning programmes and interventions.

  • Use positive behaviour management strategies to support pupils with emotional regulation.

  • Work closely with teachers, families, and other professionals to provide consistent support.

Requirements We are looking for candidates who:
  • Hold a recognised Learning Support Assistant qualification or relevant Teaching Assistant qualification.

  • Have experience supporting secondary-aged pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.

  • Have excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.

  • Are patient, resilient, adaptable, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Hold a full UK driving licence and are willing to travel as part of an outreach role.

  • Have business-use motor insurance or are willing to obtain it before starting the role.

  • Hold an Enhanced Child and Adult DBS registered on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for a new DBS.

Desirable Skills • Previous experience in an outreach, alternative provision, or specialist education setting.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and restorative approaches.

  • Experience delivering one-to-one interventions.

  • Team Teach or other positive behaviour management training (desirable but not essential).

  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
