QHSE / Quality Health Safety Environmental Manager - Chemicals

A UK chemical manufacturer is looking for an HSEQ Manager to take ownership of health, safety and quality across its manufacturing operations. This is an equal split between EHS and Quality, with environmental compliance alongside.

It's an old-school, hands-on manufacturing plant with ATEX zoned areas. The role suits someone who is happiest out on the plant rather than behind a desk: walking the site, working closely with production and engineering, understanding the process, and driving improvements through the teams around them.

Health & Safety

• Own the site safety management system and ISO 45001


• Lead DSEAR risk assessments and maintain hazardous area classification and ATEX compliance


• Take part in HAZOP studies and plant design reviews, identifying process risk and agreeing mitigations


• Manage Permit to Work and Management of Change for plant modifications


• Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis, and drive remedial actions through production and engineering teams


• Build a visible, engaged safety culture on the shop floor

• Manage customer validation activity at plant level, including IQ, OQ and PQ, from protocol through to close-out


• Act as the site's quality contact for customers, hosting audits and managing validation projects that can run over several months


• Own change control and CAPA, including non-conformance investigation and root cause


• Maintain ISO 9001 and run the internal audit programme

• Support ISO 14001 and compliance with the site's environmental permit, trade effluent and waste obligations

• Experience on an ATEX zoned manufacturing site, with hands-on DSEAR knowledge


• Hands-on experience of equipment or process validation (IQ, OQ, PQ) at plant level, gained in any regulated manufacturing sector: chemical, pharmaceutical, food, medical device, personal care or similar


• Customer audit and change control experience


• HAZOP participation and an understanding of process safety


• NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum


• ISO internal auditor qualification across 9001, 14001 and/or 45001


• The confidence to influence without direct authority. The role has no direct reports and delivers through operational teams


• A practical, technical mindset and credibility with operators and engineers

• A genuinely broad role combining process safety and quality ownership, with real influence on how the site runs


• Reporting to the Group Head of Quality & Compliance
